JP is still doing various assignments for ESPN, some soccer, some hockey. He had a one year contract with the Atlanta Thrashers to do play by play for them. Don't know if they will retain them. He also is finishing out his contract with MSG Network to do play by play for the MetroStars.

Mike Hill was fired by ESPN over a year ago for "cause".

Don't know what happened to Mighten, who has been replaced by Janusz Michalik.

JP now does NHL ice hockey for the Atlanta Thrashers and some playoff games on ESPN2. Prior to his soccer gig at ESPN Int'l, JP was primarily a minor league ice hockey announcer, with Erie, Pennsylvania (100+ inches of snow each year) being one of his stops.

I think Eddie Mighten moved back to England.

I think Mike Hill was the best PBP Espn ever had.

He was wonderful during the World Cup when he was paired up with Seamus Mallon. Two quality announcers.

JP is back on the MetroStars telecasts, now that his playoff work with ESPN & the NHL Network (radio) is done.

Any idea what the "cause" was?

Thx,

Jay!

Mike Hill the greatest announcer? You guys are kidding right? This guy doesn't even show enthusiasm. He makes an exciting game seem less interesting. He sounds like he doesn't even want to commentate with his boring tone. When Germany scored that near 90th minute goal against Paraguay he said, "And Germany scores." He made it sound as if the goal wasn't important or something. He does that for every goal. How does that show quality in a announcer? And please enough with the "Announcers have to let the game speak for itself." Why have announcers then in the first place? If anyone wants sound like Hill, just get two hours of sleep per night or something.

Which means the Andres Cantor In English experiment is over. Pity; I loved his enthusiasm (the Milbrett goal, the Vagenas PK, the Cameroon semifinal win).

... And his constant referring to Alexi Lalas as "Big Boy." :)

Sr. Cantor will still broadcast the Olympics for years to come...on Telemundo...the EXCLUSIVE US TV home of most men's futbol matches in 2004...featuring Mexico and Argentina. Telemundo is where Sr. Cantor belongs.

I would be surprised to see men's futbol show up on MSNBC with the exception of one opening match (2 days before the opening ceremony to fill a time slot), the semifinals, and the final.

There are too many other things for MSNBC to air: men's and women's basketball, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, softball, women's soccer, rowing, kayaking, canoeing, cycling, etc. etc. etc.

They (NBC) should have picked up Jack Edwards...even though a lot of people hate him, unfortunately.

By the way, NBC Universal announced that they will air the Olympics on Bravo and USA also. So now there is about 5 stations airing the Olympics in English and one in spanish. This is from nbcolympics.com:

The most in-depth Olympic broadcast in history is coming August 11-29 to the networks of NBC.

Action from every sport contested in Athens
Unprecedented 24-hours-per-day broadcast
More than 1,200 hours of coverage
