Out of curiosity , i would like to hear what Your honest expectations for City this year are? And,

What expectations you think the senior management of City (Hughes, sheik mansour (sp?), and the chairman) have?

is there a difference perhaps?

Would you guys take a league cup or maybe a deep run in the FA cup over say, 4th?

or do you want CL football next year at all costs?

Please say what you feel, cause it would be interesting for other fans to see what City fans are thinking.

Thanks

My expectations this year are the same as stated by the chairman which is 6th or better. I would like to see two deep cup runs and winning one would be icing in the cake. What I am interested in is what could happen in the January window if we are in shouting distance of the top four. We don't need to worry about cup tied players and if we are close could get the one or two we need to put us over. Although with the additions today I like the way we stand now. As for Hughes, I think we may have finally turned him blue and I am willing to see what he can do. They really seem to have a plan and are sticking to it. I am very satisfied so far. That said I hope we don't get relegated this year :D

5th, challenging for 4th.
I think the Sheikh/Chairman have similar ambitions.

I've been a City fan long enough that I will happily settle for clear improvement overall and not getting dumped out of a cup by a lower division club. Having been through some of the dark times, I'm more than willing to be patient if we're heading in the right direction.

Interesting POV's , keep em coming.

Its nice to see that many of you are remaining level headed. Nothing is handed to you. But man City deff have a squad now capable of atleast competing and putting there foot down on the league.

People compare them to chelsea, but i think its fair to say that chelsea had a bit more success before the russian roubles came into play.

Something that you can't honestly say about City, atm.
I think winning the league cup and maybe a top 5 finish would be massive success. maybe a good FA cup run?

Its fun watching this develop at manchester City, from a football fans POV. interesting to see what they can do to fulfill all there ambition now that they have the money to do so.

The thing you have to realise Juanca, ten years ago we played Gillingham in a division two play off final and that is the defining memory for many City fans (at least from my perspective; as a football fan i implore you to look at the videos on youtube. The look on Nicky Weavers face after he saves the penalty is the essence of what football is about). We haven't won the Champions League, we haven't challenged for the league in a long, long time and we have a habit of shooting ourselves in the foot. We haven't got the illustrous winning 'history' that many 'top four' supporters think is neccesary for success but our fan's have been loyal even down in the depths of division two. A lot of this is very, very, very new even after a season.

Carlos Tevez, Robinho, Adebayor, Kolo Toure .. **** even Craig Bellamy would of been out of our reach merely three seasons ago. I look at our team on match day and i have to pinch myself, every single time. I can scarcely believe some of the build-up play that our team is capable of.

I think if we gel we could do anything this season, (my prediction is rather ambitious i have to say, I think many fans would be content with a deep cup run/europe league but the outlay from the Chairman has changed a lot of that IMO) including a Champions League spot, but i would also be happy building on last year and challenging like Everton/Aston Villa did last year. All i know is that this year, I look at every single match and believe we have a chance of winning.

What's your expectations for us this year?

I expect to finish 7th or above. I think we are capable of finishing in the top four, but with City comes inevitable slip ups. I also expect for the media to continue thier anti-City campaigning and us gaining a few more friends/foes that we would normally gain. We will be villified in the eyes of other supporters, but that's ok with me, just let me see City hoist a trophy. Have you seen the recent interview with our chairman? It is comforting for me to feel that the ship is in good hands. Not only do we have people who know what they're doing, they also have the resources to compete in the market, and make things happen.

For me, a time like this following this team is unprecedented.

Well, my expectations of City are that with the group of players you have purchased, you have COMPLETELY revamped the teams mentality.
I agree with you in that every game i see City in, i must consider them favorites to win or atleast challenge the top teams in games involving the Big4.

I Would expect City to finish atleast 3rd-5th.
Maybe the league cup if you don't encounter our Young guns;) besides, even the spuds recently won it. its nothing major, but it would be a good start in the right direction.
Im sure the City fan base won't get over carried with it, But it would be great for the fans after so many years of patience.

The FA cup is allways special and much harder to win, but why not? you have the squad to compete in it.

.

Yes, i have.
i agree with you that it seems your chairman does have a sensible head on his shoulders. deep down maybe his heart says "skys the limit" , and it probably is, but , IF City are to take a different approach than say chelsea did under mourinho, its VITAL that the top people speak like the chairman did on that interview.

I don't think anyone that is past puberty will despise city for having mega bucks or buying top players, cause its FOOTBALL. thats just the way it works. Chelsea raided ligue 1 for all its top players years back, arsenal and man utd continue to pluck the best youngsters from around the world.

I think its important that he basically said that they have a 1-2 year plan, and intend to stick to it, for better or worse. if the results go in sparky's favour, i can see him being a real force.

Looking at the quality in this club, I think 4th or 5th is reasonable. As far as pure footballing talent goes, City compare very favorably to Liverpool and Trafford United..

My expectation is for a top 7 finish at least. Any type of European football would be good for the club. As for the Carling and FA Cups, I'd like for City to have good showings in both. Maybe even take one home.

I think Chelsea are the only team with a better squad than us and that isn't decisive. For individual talent, we have one of the best squads in the world, with players like De Jong, Petrov, Santa Cruz, and Zabaleta technically backups and respected internationals.

BUT this all counts for nothing if we don't reach grade A as a "team". Early signs are promising, we haven't blown anyone away with our performances yet but we have won - not playing well and winning is a staple of a top club, if we improve our cohesion (passes are still going astray, etc.), we could be a lethal force. Man U's squad isn't impressive at all at the moment I don't think, but Bacon Face knows how to create a "team" from years of experience.

7th or better, though I'm not going to hold my breath.

There are two many open questions. From team chemistry to transfer decisions....I'd settle for 9th (one place better than last year) and count it a victory...as a long time City fan, I take those where I can get them! But I think 5-6 is as low as we can go without more drama invading the changing room.

The last part is what I fear, when the bad run sets in (which every team has to some level) how deadly will the mercenary feel of the changing room end up being?

As a Londonah I'm not 'appy at the new forces gathering in the North West but the whole fantasy of a new kid on the block genuinely wanting to challenge is gravy - I think the main obstacle to success will be pyschological something all the real challengers to the established order must overcome.

Now that some of the other boards' are starting to make there season predictions, its interesting to note that many of You guys have lower expectations for your own club than opposition fans do for man city.

most people are tipping city to nick 4th place. that is, if anyone does it, many believe city is best equipped for the long haul.
ALOT of seasoned pro's on this squad now. if ade keeps banging in the goals, i could see it too:cool:

Cohesion is important, we haven't played particularly well to win our games so far but haven't played anyone especially good. Passes are still missing their targets, still some miscommunications that a Fernando Torres or Wayne Rooney would punish. But our defence is better than it has been for a long time and Shay is now 7 hours without conceding a goal. Toure and Lescott look like a great CB pair so far, the wing-backs are a bit more questionable (Micah lacks positional sense on the right and his backup Zabaleta is arguably better, Bridge on the left is good going forward but quite easily beaten at times).

AH Juanca you have just hit on the essence if being a City fan. The glass is always half empty. None of us here would ever be that optimistic, it is just in the nature of a City fan to believe that we will not be as good as advertised. It is a defense mechanism caused by years of failure and disappointment. Not only does the team need to learn to expect to win but I think we supporters do to. But we will learn quickly :D

After having seen all matches played so far, I rate MC as third behind Chelsea (#1) and Arsenal (#2). United follows, and Liverpool is playing so badly I don't think they're a Top 5 right now. #5 would be the Spurs right now.
