Mods, please merge these this thread with the other. Since we always discuss recent games, I don't want there to be any problems with not having the "(R)" in the title.

It happened again...Lowe pitches horribly and gets the win. His ERA is now 6.22, but he'll brag about winning his 4th game.

We're now tied with the Angels for the best record in baseball.

Right on, and Lowe claims his sinker is finally starting to come back to form. Right. No way does this guy win without the run support the Sox give him.
He should win at least 10 games this season though I had hoped for about 15 from him. His era is one of the worst in the American League.

I still can't get over that he turned down $27M for three years. The AL ERA for starting pitchers is 4.3-4.4. He was below avg. for starters last year and expects Roy Halliday money. The season is 30% over and he's at 6.22. He'd have to pitch like a monster just to get a respectable ERA.

Here's a killer stat: Lowe's batting average against is a whopping .335 this year! (OPS .866)

On the bright side, he's helped Theo make the "Who are we gonna keep?" decision a little easier.

D'oh! No sweep this series. Already down 12-0 in the 4th!

Derek Lowe had the same problem I think last year early in the season when he had a high ERA, but still won games. I guess if he still wins, he should start. Maybe it's good karma for the batters that they have to perform well cuz the pitcher stinks. haha

The see saw between Sox and NY continues. Of all people, David McCarty hits a 2 run HR in the 12th, on a 3-0 pitch no less. Varitek gets hit by a pitch just before the HR. One game series vs. the Orioles tomorrow, big game, especially since the Os are a team the Sox should go 12-7 or 13-6 against but always seem to be crap against, 2-3 so far this year.

Kinda like the Indians?

I'm happy with the Sox result. Good for McCarty. He's always been known as a defensive specialist - a la Pokey Reese. Nice to see him come through offensively.

Also good for Andy Dominique, but I'm wondering if Mueller's gonna have to fight for his starting position. Youkilis has been damn good and steady over there in the hot corner. He's won my support. Swapped him and Mueller on both my fantasy teams. (Hoping I can get Mueller back when he gets back.)

I'd put Pokey in the "defensive specialist" category with Ozzie Smith and Brooks Robinson.

I am worth more than $27M man allows 7 runs, 8 hits, and 4 walks in five innings. His ERA is now 6.84 for the season.

I picked up Lowe for my fantasy team figuring he can't stay this bad. Or maybe he can.

It is very troubling that he can't even pitch well at home. He pitched well at home last year. This year he can't pitch well anywhere.

Going in to the season, it looked like we had one of the best pichting staffs in baseball history. What a difference a few months makes. Lowe's ERA is 6.84. Kim is in the minors. Pedro's ERA is 4.40.

I hear you. Have to believe Pedro will lower his era. It looks like they have given up on Kim and are trying to trade him.

Lowe is a mystery, he flip flops so often. He pitched a no hitter, etc. 2 seasons ago. He is troublign me, I am afraid that the Sox are sticking with him in the rotation. How many times does he have to pitch poorly before he either gets demoted or put in the bullpen.

What are the alternatives though? Kim's in the minors, Arroyo's already in the rotation, their only option is to bring someone up from Pawtucket or go for some sort of retread. Might as well see if Lowe can work his way out of it, for now anyway. If a starter's available around the deadline, maybe they can make a move.

We talked about Tim Kester in the other thread. 66.1 innings, 5 walks. Allowed 25 runs, 20 earned, on 60 hits. ERA of 2.40.

GET HIM HERE NOW!

I'm not worried yet. We all knew the Yankees slump wasn't going to last forever, and we all knew we weren't going to stay the hottest team forever. This is just a bit of a reality check. With that said, this team is still going to finish with a better than .600 record. I don't know what's been going wrong, when Lowe, Arroyo, Martinez, and Wakefield all get shelled in straight outings, but Curt's up tonight, and that always gets the guys going.

I'm just a big baby when we start losing, but we'll probably make the playoffs.
