I guess I'm in the minority on the PK call...but explain the 21-6 differential in fouls, and the fact that Xavier, Hyppia and the rest weren't called on the same sliding tackles that Newcastle were either carded or whistled for.

While I'll admit he didn't have a spectacular night, there was no absolutely outragous calls, and nothing that completely changed the flow of the game. All teams have nights when you get the majority of the calls, and some nights when you don't. In my opinion, in all comes out in the wash. I have no problem admitting that Liverpool were seemingly on his good side, but I didn't think that it had a tremendous influence on the match.

The final goal tally may not have been affected, but the flow of the game most certainly was.
Liverpool was able to go in hard for every ball and not get called when they won it, while Newcastle was routinely whistled for incidental contact in 50-50 situations.
No, there weren't any incorrect calls that led directly to a goal. But a number of calls were made in favor of Liverpool while Newcastle was on the counterattack, just as a number of calls weren't made while Liverpool were moving forward.
Officiating like this has a major effect on the flow of the game; it disallows one and sometimes both teams from developing their rhythm.
That's not to say he's at fault for all of the mistakes Newcastle made, nor should be be credited for the excellent passing and off-the-ball running from Liverpool. However, it certainly made it more difficult for the Mags to get out of their funk, all the while adding to the confidence of the Scousers.

If I didnt already support Arsenal(since 79) I would seriously jump to Newcastle. Absolutely the most entertaining team in the League. Im glad to see Fox broadcasting these games as Ive not seen a boring one yet.

Thanks for the kind words.
We have grown to expect that we will never win anything, but we can deal with that as long as the team plays the game well.
