last time I checked, there was battle between soccer and CFL.
The battle still goes on, although in the background at the moment. City staff are presently negotiating solely with the CFL group and are due to present a report to council on Sept 2. Council will vote on this proposal at some point.

There are still councilors who are in favour of the soccer stadium in Kanata, but they have been asked by Eugene Melnyk to keep things quiet until the Lansdowne report is available. I don't understand all of the background, but some of the councilors who voted to proceed with the Lansdowne Live proposal (including a stadium for CFL) are intending to vote for the soccer stadium the next time around.

Today's Ottawa Citizen had a report of yet another approach that may muddy the waters further:

Are Macs preferable to PCs? Its the same kind of thing. Yes they are different locations, but really the locations are just tied to the money.

The CFL stadium is planned for Lansdowne Park because that is where the existing derelict stadium is, and where the Lansdowne Live group are proposing their real estate developments that will subsidize the CFL losses.

Eugene Melnyk wants to build his soccer stadium in Kanata, where it can use the same parking lot as the Ottawa Senators do (which he also owns) and which can also tie into his proposed real estate developments around Scotiabank Place.

ah.. now I think I recall, it's either one or the other, the city won't support both although it's two different locations.
