In a shrewd political move, the leftist government of President Hugo Chavez has added the National Basketball Association playoffs to a Venezuela state TV channel frequently devoted to anti-American harangues.
Timeouts during the games are used to castigate the opposition for its "coup-plotting" and to praise Chavez's policies to help the poor.
"It's a free throw for Karl Malone," a narrator barked during a recent Los Angeles Lakers game. "The Venezuelan revolution (also) makes you free."
"We have a player change for Shaquille O'Neal. And we have a change for the better with the new PDVSA," the announcer said.

I really doubt that it says that.

They have that channel on the internet and I'll put the link here when I find it so that everybody can watch those games and hear the comments by themselves.

You can believe what some people say, that I KNOW that have lied before. Or you can watch and hear it yourself and find out if it's true.

Look, it looks like it's actually a government sponsored market and people are buying chicken. Or are they signing their petition on the chickens?

You can believe what some people say, that I KNOW that have lied before. The NBA story is from AP, not CNN. ;)

I'll ask my cousin if it's true or not. I wonder why meridiano didnt get the rights for NBA playoffs?

I think the same way as JuanArango, why didn't MeridianoTV buy the rights to the NBA games (Venezuela's ESPN).

I don't buy the crap that the government shows NBA to promote their political agenda, you know why?:
- Chavez's government has always been nationalist.
- If they wanted to do this, they would have bought the rights to the Venezuelan national soccer team games (another channel has them)
- I'm sure that basketball is the 3rd most popular sport in Venezuela right now after baseball and soccer.

So, that's why to me that article doesn't make sense. If it said "Chavez bought the rights to Venezuela's national league to promote his agenda" I might believe, but being one of the most nationalist presidents in the World I don't see how/why he would do that with NBA games.

Actually during LPV (Liga Professional de Baloncesto) season basketball is pretty popular. The LPV is more popular than La liga Venezolana de Futbol.
