Good reply to end the other thread FR. I guess some people still just refuse to believe that there are some clubs and some players who can and will say "no" to Bayern.

And with a player like Diego, Bremen was especially in a place to say no to Bayern. Not like there weren't other big clubs out there ready to offer a good sum for a player of that calibre.

From what I understand we were in negotiations with Diego's father/agent, but he had already made a deal with Juve, and was just trying to use us to hike the percentage Diego will get from the deal.
Bremen said that they were ready to negotiate with us about Diego, but our management took too long to make up their mind (maybe because we didnt have a coach), and once they decided to go after him, it was too late.
Maybe Bremen would have said no at the end, but at least we should have tried everything to get someone like Diego to the club.
Anyways old story didnt mean to bring it up again.

That's partially true.
Had DIEGO decided he wanted to to join Bayern, then Bremen wouldn't have had a choice in the matter.
Bremen wasn't going to negotiate with Bayern because they WANTED TO.
As long as Diego was interested in joining Juventus, Bremen could say "no" to Bayern in the deal.
In that case, Bremen didn't have control over what would happen with Bayern.
Let me use another case.
Had you guys not broken every transfer rule in the book and gone behind Bremen's back to negotiate with Klose and get him to demand to move to Bayern, Bremen would have told you "no" then too.
After how you guys "stole" Ismael and Klose from them, Bremen would NEVER send a player to Bayern unless they absolutely have no choice in the matter.
Perhaps Diego's father just used the Bayern interest to sweeten the Juve deal.
But at that time, nothing had been signed. They had a "gentleman's agreement....."

Exactly. The only reason Bayern was in the picture was because the final call belonged to Diego, not to Werder.

If you could just get Magath to sell him to you......

Bremen would have told you "no" then too.
Thats the exact reason why we keep going behind their back. They just dont want to give in.:D
And if Özil keeps it up I guess we might do it again.:D

My point during the last thread was not to bring up the Diego conversation again as I personally believe (by only reading public media reports) that Diego did not want Germany...not just Bayern and that is why he passed...we unfortunately were merely a bargaining tool to get him a move to Italy. That being said, I am done with the "what's his name" topic and now he can rot in the Serie A like he wished for. Bitterness over and out.
I am still just wondering if there is any chance the we will have any other transactions before the window closes...

He was always going to Juve. However, the Juventus deal wasn't "done" by the time Bayern got serious with its interest.
So no, Bayern was not a "bargaining tool" to get him the move to Italy. Bayern was the bargaining tool to get Diego and his daddy more personal money out of the deal as someone suggested earlier.

Of course there's a chance. It isn't "likely", but there's always a chance.
Especially as Real is in Germany for their friendly in Dortmund tomorrow night....... ;)

Uli gave an interview to SportBild.
On van der Vaart: they thought about him before he moved to Madrid but came to the conclusion that he's more of a second striker and thus doesn't fit the system and the club won't change it for one player
They would have been keen on Sneijder if they had sold Ribery.
They have spent €27M net this summer but actually have 18 "new" signings because van Gaal will make every single player better.

@Footy and Cris......
What's the scoop/reasoning behind the friendly with Real and Dortmund? Seems like an odd matchup at this time of year....
