If Rensing does improve, it makes no sense to ship him off though imo. We could focus on 2 positions instead of 3-4, less money to spend and more money to spend on 1 position to get a better player for just 1 position.

His contract runs out next summer and there's no way in hell they are going to give him an extension, hopefully. It's just a matter of time until Butt gets another chance anyway.

If Robben was bought as a winger, the only position for him in the starting eleven would be the Tymo position,....since Bommel is a Gaal darling.
What? Van Gaal is not a fan of the 4-2-2-2 so I would rule it out. We will play a 4-3-3 with Ribery on leftwing and Robben on the rightwing.

Schweinsteiger is indeed a question mark. Actually there is no place for him. He is way too slow, but maybe his defensive 'skills' save him...

When Lahm was injured under Magath's tenure at Bayern, Schweini played at LB and played it VERY well.

It amazes me that people (managers) still rate him in attack as opposed to defense.

It is nice to be perfect.

Well that's the point. If you step up and play good, you get a contract extension and stay as #1. If you play like you did the previous season, you will not get an extension and find some mid-table club to sign you. It's to him, my point is if he does he should get an extension and no point to run after Neuer who has better defense in front of him as well as a very defensive counter-attacking team in the past few years.

Then why not keep Lell while we are it, maybe he will turn into Dani Alves. That's just as realistic as Rensing ever becoming a top goalie.

Because Lell has never had amazing games. Rensing did vs Milan and Lyon. You do realize we would have played Barca in the round 16 if it wasn't for Rensing right? Lell's best games have solid matches, never outstading. That there is the difference. Lell has also started for us more than 1 season, this is Rensing's 2nd. If he doesn't step up this season, I say go for Neuer as well man.

That is assuming Daniel Alves is a "top defender". I mean he ONLY comes off the bench for Brazil.

What is your formation ?

To the other news, Hoeneß ruled out any more transfers for the defense which would cost up to 15M €. Either they wait until the Wolfsburg match, to see whether they will risk to have a Buyten as a CB boss and no RB, or we will see a quick transfer of Rafinha and a Drobny for the goal...

-------------------------------Gomez
--------Ribery-----------------------------------Robben

-----------------Schweinsteiger/Altintop/Sosa/Mueller

--------------Tymoschuk-----------Van Bommel

LB---------------------CB----------CB--------------------RB

-----------------------------GK

Isn't this the most ideal formation now? Tactically speaking, this suits Bayern's personnel the best. It is a 4-3-3 where the width will be provided by the fullbacks. Van Bommel and Tymoschuk can finally play their preferred roles and should Bayern get Kroos back, he would slot in quite well in the role right behind the attacking trident to play a central creative role that will fall to four players right now.

Magath asked about Robben in todays press conference:

I decided to take a closer look on his last sentence: and Guys, I think Magath send Bayern a signal !

Magath: "Ich dachte die suchen einen rechten Verteidiger. So kann man sich täuschen."Magath: I thought they are looking after a Right Back...[dont' know how to translate the rest, but it is like] '...so you can be wrong'

you were the same guy who told us how strong Braafheid was.

In this case at least we know something about Robben playing against decent competition.

So after three games you're already writing off Braafheid. Thanks for reminding me why I'm happy not to be a fan of an elite club.

Who here needed 3 games to know,
that Braafheid is not a Quality player ?

Heitinga is another dutch, who is on the transfer rumour list.

Well, Micho has played ONE MINUTE yet, so that isn't an issue this season. Babstuber is a rookie in his first professional season with the Bayern 1st team and clearly will need to develop. Breno hasn't been given the opportunity.

Not sure what your point was.
I think he actually makes a decent enough point... you don't blame the backup CB's as the problem when the reason they're being depended upon is due to the first-team guys sucking. OK, that's not strictly true... ideally they should be ready to step in, but still. As for Micho, he hasn't shown any kind of improvement before the injury, but hopefully he can change that when he gets back.

He deserves as much a chance than anyone else.

Why does no one include Olic in their "new" proposed lineups when he's clearly been our best, most active player up to this point? Is he now disposable? I don't think that the signing of one new player and the return of Ribery necessarily should take him out of a starting position.

I had Olic in my formation, some pages ago.

I prefer R and R in the midfield , with the dangerous strikers Gomez and Olic, than a lame midfield with Bommel, Tymo, Schweinsteiger.

In a 4-3-3, where would you put him?

He wouldn't fit into a 4-3-3 but he definitely figures in at Bayern, probably the first to come off the bench.

He should partner Gomez in a 4-4-2 though, no question about it.

Vs super defensive teams, Olic can easily play.

---------------Gomez-------------
---Robben-------------Olic/Muller--
-------------Ribery---------------
-----------------------------------
--------Schwien/Bmml-------------
-----------------Tymo------------

There is also:

----------------Gomez-------------
-----------Klose-------------------
Ribery----------------------Robben
--------Bml/Pig---Tymo------------

Klose can also play over Olic/Muller and Klose can play over Gomez with Olic in the 4-2-2-2.

There is also:

-------------Gomez--------------
--Ribery-----------------Robben--
----------Ol/Mul/Klose------------
--------Sch/Bmml----------------
-----------------Tymos-----------

If Kroos can have a break-out season, he would be beyond perfect next season if we keep Ribery in his natural, classical #10 position!
--

It's a long season and Robben is known to be injury-prone quite a bit. He will find games, and so should Klose as some people keep talking like he's done now.. :S

In a 4-4-2, but as you have pointed out Van Gaal preference is a 4-3-3...maybe that gives us some insight into the fact that Van Gaal has stated that he has not had a hand in the transfers as our personnel is shaping up to now fill a 4-4-2 formation better than a 4-3-3.

I worry that with Robben and Ribery on the wing spots (both slight and non-defensive minded) and an attacking position centrally in front of MvB and Tymo, we will get eaten alive with the way our defense has been performing...
