Am i dreaming or could it possibly happen? What a move that would be for Spurs. Could just be the midfielder we are looking for and a free transfer to boot.
I know where not in Europe but please Edgar if you reading, WE NEED YOU!!

Meanwhile, Tottenham have not given up hope of landing Edgar Davids this summer. Spurs were thwarted in their attempts to sign the Holland midfielder before his mid-season loan to Barcelona, but have revived their interest.
Davids' agent Robert Geerlings was understood to be in London yesterday having told the Spanish press that an English club had made "a huge offer" for the 31-year-old's services. It came from Spurs, though Geerlings' motives in disclosing the negotiations may have been to flush out interest from Chelsea.
Yep, apparently it's true. A "huge" offer. Would be very surprised it it comes off but nice ambition from Levy once again and good to see them chasing defensive midfield players.

Davids was the player we 'nearly' signed (another one!). The rumour mill started up because he'd been seen at the training ground and was interested 'cos Spurs were his favourite English team when he was growing up.
He, and a whole bunch of other Dutchmen, have been released by Barca.
I'd like to have more Dutch people at the club, minus their attitudes.

Spurs need Davids. They struggled in the midfield this year and look waht he helped do at Barcalona. If they do get him, bringing in Convey would also make them a lot better.

Sounds like speculation, but if Spurs could offer some godly amount to the dutchman it would indeed be the swoop of the summer! I think it might hinge on who the coach is though because I would think he would want to know who his gaffer is before he signs.

Davids would certainly help the team in the cool department. I hope they get him. I would like to see him in England.

he is exactly the kind if guy they need... but it seems a pipe dream - he will stay at barca IMO

Not another summer of `Spurs almost signed....`. Davids won`t go to Spurs. He`s been credited with Barcas end of season surge to second place and his partnership with Ronaldinho has worked well. He`ll stay with them. Next player on the Spurs wanted list?

This would be a very large upgrade for Spurs, providing some class in midfield and allowing King to possibly move back to upgrade what was a horrific defense last year.
I personally think it is a genious posturing move and both parties are playing off each other. Davids is trying to squeeze Barca for every penny and Tottenham is trying to force PSV's hand over Van Bommel (and most likely the price downward).
In the end I think it will end happily for everyone as Arsenen gets his midfield boss and Davids gets more money out of Barca.

I had heard that Arneson was actually not interested in Van Bommel because of his injury record and that he may not be the answer for us, and this seems to back it up.
6 million pounds over 2 years for Edgar, that's a decent salary in this day and age but worth offering from the club if only for the publicity boost if it comes off.
Let's see what happens, work your magic Frank :D Better for the club to making offers even if they don't come off, than to be doing nothing.

The speculation from the Spanish media in that last article about Chelsea offering the large some is such trash. Everytime some big name player gets associated with England it's Chelsea by default. I get tired of that after a while.
On another note that last article seemed like very good news for Spurs. Davids is not only a fantastic midfielder but he's also the caliber player Man U pick up during the summer so it's nice to see that. If they could pick up Kluivert on the cheap as well maybe we'd see a new version of the classic Villa-Ardiles headline "Spurs swoop the world", only Dutch. :)

Exactly. Kluivert can kiss my chuddies.
Other players released by Barca are
Overmars, Cocu, Kluivert, and Reizeger.

Cocu is one I'd like to see the club put in a bid for. He's an achievable signing and still top quality with a good few years to go.

Davids has signed for Barca on a 3 year deal which is what he wanted. They offered a 2 year deal, a 'deal' from the EPL was suddenly, allegedly available and Barca upped their attempts to keep him.
Spurs generally keep all transfer activity under wraps. This was blatant agent tomfoolery. We wuz had. Where have I heard that one before?
Arse, and indeed, bum.

Bad luck. Spurs almost signed him. Well at least everyone in football now knows Spurs are prepared to break the bank for a top holding midfielder. Whomever you now go for will be yours for £60,000 a week.

Van Bommel?
Arnesen better find some prospects in the Netherlands, or else.
