Real Madrid director of football Jorge Valdano claims left-back Roberto Carlos will complete a £20million move to Chelsea in the next few days.
The 31-year-old Brazilian star was linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge several months ago but it is reported he will now take up an offer from the Blues which will double his salary to around £120,000 a week.
If this goes through for Chelsea, your chances of winning some kind of trophy next year increases a lot. It would be really exiciting to watch Carlos in the premiership.

The 'buzz' on Sky Sports News is that Carlos is going to sign this week for 20mil and that Real Madrid say they are waiting for confirmation of payment.
According to the UK press - Ranieri has been summoned to Stamford Bridge today for a meeting with PK and RA and also according to the UK press RA wants Zola back to play for one more year offering him 50k per week.
Its all go!!!! :)

i TOTALLY disagree - its just another wasteful, unnecessary buy like crespo, veron, etc. - i really dont think wayne bridge is the problem

Well lets see, who would you rather have playing left back Roberto Carlos or Wayne Bridge? Carlos is a huge huge huge upgrade and you guys have the money to spend.

I'd rather Bridge. Bridge is only going to get better, while Carlos........well, its all downhill from here.

what he said
1-i am not a londoner and chelsea is not my team, so consider me objective
2-roberto carlos is a left "back" in name only... now if chelsea played him at LM, he could definitely help

Carlos is good but seeing him in Chelsea is a waste of talent(to be really honest)

Wayne Bridge... obviously. Carlos is another one of those Madrid 'defenders' who is hardly ever defending. Why do you think they've just done so badly in all competitions - because of the defense.

there was a time when i wouldve been excited by this but am not so sure now...
bridge has been brilliant for us and if we bring in carlos, who's gonna give in to whom?
with robben and hopefully a fit duff, a rampaging left back isnt really whats needed now and i feel bridge is more reliable defensively.

I would have Wayne Bridge everytime, he is young, enthusiatic, tallented, British, wants to play for Chelsea.
Whereas Roberto Carlos is.....................

Wayne Bridge at LB – better defensively and equipped to play in the premeirship
Duff-er at LM or perhaps Robben at LM, makes Carlos 3rd choice imho
Carlos? That’s a lot of money to pay for a 31-year old substitute. Carlos’s best years are behind him.

I wonder if this is more about RA wanting to buy a name player from Real as an ego/statement type thing or if someone really thinks he's an upgrade?
Would be interesting to see Ronaldo or Figo or Beckham or Raul be bought, but Roberto Carlos is not going to be a significant improvement.

Chelsea could use help in the free-kick department. Maybe Roberto Carlos will regain some of that consistent form he had a few years ago. RCarlos had one laser of a goal from 35 yds this year in la liga that I saw highlights of over and over again. Rainieri played Duff on the right and Gronks on the left. Maybe Roberto Carlos could get turned around to the other side. How is Bridge's right peg? - I though I saw a cross or two from his "weak" foot this past season. Didn't he score in CL with his right foot?

This one has Roman's personal pawprints all over it. I doubt even Kenyon would sanction this buy. Why do we need a 31-year-old LB that doesn't defend? Especially when we have one of the top 2 English LB's already in the team and he was our most improved player last year. If we needed a LW I could see it but we already have Duff and Robben.
This makes absolutely no footballing sense. Pure PR/ego move.
And please tell me the Zola story is bollocks too. I love Franco but is he really better than what we've got? This smacks of RA trying to buy the fans' loyalty.

Nevermind the 3 CL's he won with Madrid, the World Cup with Brazil, and his Liga titles.

God, I hope this happens. As an Arsenal supporter this is the one rumoured transfer that I've been praying for.
Roberto Carlos has been a great player. His fitness levels are renowned, and his desire to play as well. As such, he "demands" to play every game and probably has several more years of top-level football to contribute. And this is the last thing Chelski need at LB! Yeah, break up the wonderful foundation of young players from England/Ireland. Bridge and (a healthy) Duff on the left side could terrorise Premiership & European sides for the next 10 years. Bridge was wonderful for you guys this year. He continues to improve and push Ashley Cole as the best LB in the Premiership. But then he gets replaced by a 31-year old foreigner??? What kind of message does this send to the squad and future potential signings? If you make this deal, Scott Parker will be the last exciting domestic transfer that this club ever makes.
It also has the potential to completely disrupt any chemistry that may have been developing over the past year. Hmmm, replace a popular manager who led the club to one of its most successful seasons in recent memory, and then replace a great, young English player who scored the winning goal in your best game of the season? Looks like we don't have to worry about serious Chelsea championship challenge for another few years. With all the talent that money can buy, you'll always be a dangerous cup team, but never have the cohesion or consistency to win the league unless others hand it to you. I love it.
P.S. The only downside to this as an Arsenal supporter would be if Bridge wants out (which is what I would do if I were him) and goes to ManU or Liverpool (both of which could seriously use his talents).

It is all well and good saying Carlos v Bridge, Bridge v Carlos, Bridge v Bridge, Carlos v Carlos etc...... but the one ? to be answered is if Carlos does come to Chelsea, who has signed him?
Is it RA?
Is it PK?
Is it JM?
Is it the Stadium Manager, Security Manager, the Tea Lady me, you or a dog name boo :)
or is it CR? or even Sven? Only joking
According to reports on Sky Sports, CR's meeting with RA and PK was very convivial and mutual and they discussed the current squad and future transfer targets. Now for me, that doesn' t suggest that CR is out the door. Does it you?

Absurdly stupid and short-sighted signing - I pray that it doesn't happen...if it does it'll represent (with Morientes) a disturbingly Inter-like trend at Chelsea.
P.S. R. Carlos apparently doesn't WANT to leave Madrid, so you can stir that into the stupid pot as well...

If it does happen it has to be PK in his role of ManU supporter. However even he is not that daft?
I have seen of a few other web sites that people have been to the original source in Spanish and it does not look so bad.
