David Moyes remains insistent that Joleon Lescott will remain an Everton player.

And he strongly criticised Manchester City's conduct in their ongoing pursuit of the England man.

Moyes explained that he was the sole decision maker at Everton when it comes to player movement, and that there was no chance of him allowing the defender to leave, with City having already had two bids rejected this summer.

The Blues boss was responding to Mark Hughes' recent comments that City were still trying to 'speak to the people who will ultimately make the decision over whether the deal continues'.

Moyes said at his Friday press conference: "There's no dialogue between anyone at Everton and Manchester City, unless Manchester City are talking to someone who they shouldn't be.

"It is certainly not me. They said they are trying to talk to the people who make the decisions at Everton, well at this football Club I make the decisions. I have control of the football club so they know who to phone and I've not had a call, so they must be talking to the wrong people."

The Goodison chief was asked by journalists if he was disappointed with the way City's interest has unfolded.

"Definitely," he replied. "We wouldn't do our business in public, we would go to the right people. We have said all along we don't want to sell Joleon Lescott.

"The offer was never big enough - we rate Joleon that highly, we think the world of him as a centre half and as a left back. He gives us two players in one. They paid £12m for Gareth Barry with one year left on his contract but Joleon has considerably more than that left.

"We have had four weeks of ongoing dialogue and it's been through the media, it's not been directed through me and I make the decisions here. There's not been one call through me and I think the way the business has been handled has been disgusting. All it's done is disrupt our football club and make it very difficult for us."

Moyes also admitted that the situation has taken its toll on Lescott himself, who handed in a transfer request earlier this week.

"He has been distracted, obviously," continued Moyes. "The boy's in a little bit of turmoil with the way that things of gone, but he's been consistently told by the manager that we won't be selling him.

"So he should get his head around it and get on with his job. Maybe other people are telling him different. The fans gave him great support (against Malaga) and that's what we want. They saw that the decision we were making was right, and hopefully they still see that."

Having addressed the Lescott issue, Moyes then moved on to talk about adding players to his squad. He revealed that he hopes to add new faces sooner rather than later.

"We have got 13 or 14 players which I am happy with and we have some up-and-coming youngsters as well which gives us great hope," he said. "I hope maybe within the next 48 hours or so we will have a couple of new players added to the squad. If we do that then we will start to rebuild from the players we lost last season."

The Moyesiah is laying the smack down

Wow! Moyes can't be more clear than that. He certainly is trying to put an end to the speculation. I hope he sticks to that if City come back with a bigger offer, and I hope that our chairman backs him. Now that David has thrown down that gauntlet, I don't think he can sell Lescott for any price and not lose credibility.

I have a feeling this is all clever negotiating by Moyes to get a few more millions from City.

If Joleon wants to go play for Man City in order to double his wages, I don't think we should stand in his way.

Lescott is a class act, and has earned the right to jump ship to a wealthier club if he wants. ((Unlike a certain potato-head boy a few years back)).

We should hold off agreeing to a transfer, though, until City bump up their offer. I expect we'll see Joleon leave when they up their offer to £25m or so.

If Lescott truly wants to go, then we should let him and milk City for all their worth. If he stays and doesn't want to be here, he won't perform anyway.

I agree with Rocket - I think this clever negotiating to grab a few extra million.

funnily enough every time i was watching, JL was marking his man exactly as he should, yet the rest of our defense was ********ing crap.... how ironic.

After yesterdays performance, don't you think it might be best to just take the cash, and use it to improve your squad?

There are parallels with Spurs last summer, they spent most of the summer trying to extract every little penny from the rags when selling Berbaflop. Eventually selling him on transfer deadline day when it was too late to buy anybody else! Instead of getting the deal done, bringing in the required replacement, and concentrating on getting their team right for the Prem season.

One performance is not an indication of us or our squad. If we're going to do the deal, it will be because Man City offers us a figure so absurdly high it's impossible to say no and not because we lost one match by a ridiculous margin.

That said, I hope he goes. I don't want a guy on my team who doesn't want to be here and if Man City are dumb enough to pay £15 million for him, then I'd say we did alright.

Agree one swallow doesn't make a summer. Arsenal on their day can humiliate any team in the world, and it may just have been a bad day at the office.

Though Lescott did ask Moyes not to play him prior to the game, and surely that can't have been the good for him or the team as a whole. Having said that he was probably the best of your defenders, and seemed the only one bothered as the goals went in.
