I realize that we aren't the only team without a penalty. But my God, when are we going to get one our way? It seems like last year during some stretches that was the ONLY way we could score, but now I guess its indicative of how poor we've performed when in the 18 yd box. We are playing too simple, not enough balls over the top from midfield or early crosses. Esky is right now our most active forward, he and Cerritos when it comes to streaking into the box and getting on a dangerous ball. This is probably where we miss Convey the most, but Moreno needs to hold the ball less.

Maybe its a lack of speed up front, or something but we haven't drawn a penalty and its a very telling problem.

When we deserve one. I can't think of a potential penalty call so far. We've had Freddy falling down a lot in the box for no real reason and that's about it.

OK, but by that logic, we played better last year under Hudson.

Huh?

Owen says we don't deserve any penalties because the only time a possible foul in the box is when Freddy falls over the ball.

That shouldn't be the case. W/ Hudson, Hristo or someone would go down..and we'd get penalties.

The 2000 Supporters Shield and MLS Cup Champion Kansas City Wizards were awarded zero penalty kicks during the season.

In fact, your very own corner kick drought still hasn't reached the size of the gap that KC experienced between PK attempts from 1999-2001.

During the season we didn't, but I remember a very famous PK scored by a certain Dane that helped put us into MLS Cup that year.

I like to think I had a little bit to play in that. After I started tracking it, the Wizards PR guy started keeping a running tally of minutes since the last PK in the game notes. Chris Henderson, who was fouled in the 20th(?) minute of game 3 vs LA (the Wizards 38th MLS game of the year). After the game, Chris was quoted along the lines that he'd heard that it'd been a long time since the Wizards had gotten a PK and figured it he'd go down once he realized he wasn't going to get the ball. Miklos then converted for the only goal of the game.

No penalties would normally not be a problem, except we aren't finishing. It compounds our problem, our midfield plays it collective asses off and we don't get any gifts from the referee.

With Stewart and Jaime on the field, why would we even want the agony of watching them miss it?

You get better KC history lessons on the DC board than their own. :D

Andy, I know you're sort of a local (in MLS cities relativity) and are pretty welcome on these boards, but why do all your rainbow sporting friends have such fascination with the DC boards?

You said it, I didn't and that would be very faulty logic based on one category of events.

The reason we're not getting any PKs is because our guys up front ain't got no street cred.

Last year Echeverry was the person who drew a lot of fouls. He's this great threat, and the refs have heard of him, and he goes down -- we get a PK.

This year, none of our guys has any name recognition except Moreno and Adu. Moreno is passing instead of running through the box, and Adu isn't going to get a call because the official doesn't want to be perceived as giving a PK on name recognition. It's a very strange combination.

Also, there is no reason to foul anyone in the box because if the defender just launches th ball over the end line, there is no chance we'll score on a corner. Or, if the defender just lets a forward shoot, chances are it's in section ZZ.

Whatever, when you finally pass a reading comprehension class we can talk, but you can't seem to grasp a simple concept from a short piece of text.

Now there's a shining moment to be proud of for sure.

Way to go Geekus Maximus.

That's part of the equation.

The other part is that we don't have a coach that is teaching or rewarding players for being diving pus$ies.

'Zactly.

If you have attackers getting in dangerous position, well sometimes defender have to make desparation moves and, bob's yer uncle, you get a pk here and there. Praying for pks just doesn't make any sense. It seems like the next logical step is hoping your team turns into a bunch of cheats so you can nab unearned points...cough..cough...Frankie Hedjuk.

Not to mention the agony of the poor soul in Row ZZ that took it in the face.
