Brentford are ready to make a shock bid to lure Paolo di Canio to Griffin Park.
The 35-year-old Italian striker is out of contract at Charlton this summer and has said that he would like to stay at The Valley.

But Bees boss Martin Allen told the club website that he has a "genuine interest" in Di Canio.

He said: "I hope that we can put a financial package together that would make it acceptable, just for one year, for Paolo to join us."

Brentford were threatened with relegation for the latter part of the season and only secured their Division Two status on the last day of the campaign.

Allen, who left Barnet to take the Bees job, wants Di Canio to lead a push for promotion next season.
