Why not? Besides the horrendous weather, we easily have the fan base to support an MLS team..Your thoughts?

Besides the weather?

Isn't the weather enough? You'd have to play in a dome.

Unless the Cardinals new stadium is a dome it wouldn't work.

Don't get me wrong, the 5 hour plus drive to Home Depot Center to see MLS is a pain, but the weather presents a serious obstacle.

Sadly enough it is the weather. And if you want to be in the new dome it will be the Bidwells trying to squeeze every penny out of the operator thus ensuring the team never breaks even thus making it unattractive to an investor.

But, if Chivas did come to Phoenix, I would be a season ticket holder although I'm not sure I would be a Chivas fan (I could be a fan if the environment was correct).

There is an old thread that talks about the disadvantages of Phoenix. You might seach for it.

I spent some time talking about the disads of Phoenix, and they are two: The stadium rights, MLS can never afford a SSS with a dome, and they can't afford to do business with the Cards, no one can, even the Cards. If I had $150 million I'd love to bring MLS to my hometown, but I don't. That is what it would take for a stadium. The city needs to look at bringing in some exibition games to Glendale when the stadium opens.

The US Women played at Bank One Ballpark, but that's hardly a viable long-term stadium solution.

The Cardinals' new stadium:

Anyone know the field dimension for the the turf? I'd have to imagine that even Bidwell is smart enough to make it practical for soccer.

I really think it would be a beutiful venue for soccer, but don't think it would work on MLS economics.

Bidwill is unlikely to have given soccer much consideration. We're fortunate in that most patches of football stadium turf are usually close to being big enough for soccer, but considering how much soccer is probably on his radar, I would be surprised if he gave it a second thought.

I would be all for Chivas and Phoenix linking it up, and I'm sure that dome stadium is going to be fabulous when it opens, but Bidwell is the last thing MLS needs to deal with.

Anyways, how much hotter is it in the summer evenings in a place like Phoenix compared to Dallas or Miami? It can't be that much different, is it?

Hotter, but it's a dry heat.

It's a little different.

Because Phoenix (http://www.weather.com/weather/climatology/monthly/USAZ0166?from=search) is drier than Dallas (http://www.weather.com/weather/climatology/monthly/USTX0327?from=search), the temperature would be the higher in Phoenix for a 7:30 kick-off. But factor in the higher humidity in Dallas, and the heat index is probably fairly similar between the two cities. As the match wore on and the sun went down, the temperature would drop more quickly in Phoenix (due to the lower humidity) and by the end of the match, you'd probably be a little cooler and more comfortable in Phoenix than in Dallas.

I used to take trips from Kansas City to Phoenix all the time in the summer, and I could tell you that most days in July, and August here feel hotter than Phoenix when you factor in the humidity.
