Great to be back in season! I will take a nervy 2-1 win with RVP and Arshavin getting goals for us and Cahill scoring for Everton.

FINALLY, the wait is over. 2-0 to the gunners, one goal either side of half time, to get the season off to a great start. van persie either scoring or setting up dudu, and one of the midfielders getting in on the act as the play opens up in the second half :)

i hope we put out a 4-4-2, something like this:

almunia
sagna gallas djourou clichy
walcott song fabregas arshavin
rvp dudu

i'll be disappointed if we start with diaby, eboue (except at rb), and denilson if we play 4-4-2 in place of song.

COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!!!

jesus dude, lighten up. Besides why are you starting the match threads, Papa Burgundy still has the honors from last year.

I'd like to see:

-------Eduardo-Van Persie

Arshavin-Song-Cesc-Walcott

Clichy-Djourou-Gallas-Sagna

-----------Almunia

I thought we have changed our formation to 4-3-3? It seems that works best for us. But I wouldn't be surprised to see a 4-4-2 formation.

I think we'll probably play 4-3-3 as Wenger seems to have committed to it, but thedudes 4-4-2 looks like our strongest option to me. If we go 4-3-3 I want to see

----------------Almunia----------------
Sagna---Djourou----Gallas-----Clichy
----------Song---------Cesc-----------
-------------------RvP------------------
------Walcott----Dudu-----Arshavin--

Although I doubt we'll see that. Instead it will probably be Diaby in the middle, and Rvp where Dudu is.

we'll definitely be playing a 4-3-3.

it'll be interesting to see who starts at rb. it seems eboue has been starting a lot of the preseason games there.

i'd like to see eduardo start, but i think the front 3 will be rvp, bendtner, arshavin.

I actually like that spot for RvP, given the way he's been playing for us in recent times. I don't like him leading the line in our 4-3-3 and he hasn't formed a decent partnership with any of our ohter strikers. Has he ever even been on the pitch at the same time as Eduardo? I'd like to see how they got on.

If we play 4-3-3, I really hope Wenger gives up this RvP as a central striker idea. I'd prefer to see a front line of....

Arshavin----Bendtner/Eduardo------RvP.

..and allow Arshavin and RvP to drop in field and behind Bendtner/Eduardo. That way both of them can play that #10 role that they both can do extremely well. Eduardo is such an intelligent striker that they would easily be able to create 5 or 6 chances for him every game and Bendtner has the size and enough skill to be a pivot point they can work off.

would you prefer 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 though? i would prefer 4-4-2 myself, but i agree that rvp drops off from the front line alot (this is what you were trying to say right?). in which case my 4-4-2 actually might become 4-5-1 with rvp in the hole, and then i'm actually against this. i wasnt fortunate to catch many of the preseason games, did wenger play rvp out on the right?

God I hope not. In fact I think what a lot of us are hoping for in the transfer window is to prevent that sort of thing from happening. There's a palpable danger, for me at least, of the forward line being starved for service as Song and Diaby struggle for possession and movement. On top of that, there's unnecessary pressure on Cesc, who needs to regain his form from two years ago, and Walcott, who's very athletic but whose football imagination is pretty basic.

Im not worried at all about Song, and Diaby could be good there or he could be poor, its really a dice roll every time he's on the field. Arshavin or Rvp should really be the link up between midfield and attack, but I just don't really see Wenger playing either of them withdrawn like that. Nasri or Rosicky would be so useful right now, but we should be able make due with what we have.

I really hope we get Nasri back soon. Until then we have to make sure that Arshavin and RVP get the ball enough to work their magic.
