View Full Version : US vs. Mexico 8/12

Anyone have plans to watch the US v. Mexico game? I mostly stick downtown, so I think the best options might be either Tobacco Road or Hi-5. They've each got back/side rooms that could possibly be reserved and maybe we could actually get the audio. If there's interest, I could see about making reservations.

I'm open to other options, as well. Just hoping to find a big TV, audio, beer and food. I'm not picky!

I would normally be interested in a get together, but unfortunately I have to work. I'll keep checking back in for future games though.

FulhamRev...are those places in Durham?

Is this game going to be on TWC with SAP?

Those places are in Raleigh. I don't know what "TWC with SAP" means, so I can't help you there.

I'm going to be at Tobacco Road on Glenwood. They've got big TVs, and have been open to putting the audio on in the past. Plus, they've got good food, and really good happy hour specials from 4-6.

time warner cable with secondary audio something...as I understand it, mun2 has English as SAP.

Check this thread tomorrow...I'll probably be there but I've gotta check it out with the wife and kids.

As I understand it, mun2 is in English. And mun2 is being offered on Direct TV (which Tobacco Road has). So getting the audio in English should be do-able.

Hope to see you there. I might be solo since not many of my friends are willing to take off work.

Fulham & Dave -

What's the latest with this? Tobacco Road for the 3:55PM telecast?

FulhamRev

That's my plan. I'll be wearing the home jersey. I'll probably get there around 3:30. I'll get a table that others can sit at and make sure they have the TV on the big screen and (hopefully) some audio.

I'm looking for a place to watch in Morrisville, somewhere close to I-40 & Airport Rd. Any suggestions?

There's a Hooters near there, but I have no idea what the telly situation is. Try Buffalo Wings & Rings. It's at the corner of Davis Drive and Morrisville-Carpenter (Aviation). New place and a great spot for televised sports.

I'd suggest driving to Raleigh or to Chapel Hill. :p

Thanks for the suggestions. Ended up going to O'Mulligans off Airport Rd. Me and one other US fan watching and a Mexican fan working there. As it turns out, it doesn't matter who I was watching it with after about the 10th minuted. What a letdown. Not unexpected outcome - but disappointed with the effort.

How was the Raleigh/Durham watch party?

Tobacco Road was a good venue to watch the game at. It was nearly full -- all US fans. They had the game on pretty much all of their TVs, and they turned the sound on (in English) for us.

My fiance and a couple of other friends ended up showing up, so I didn't bother seeing if anyone else was there because of this thread. But if anyone showed up because of the thread, let me know. Maybe we can make Tobacco Road the usual spot in Raleigh for US soccer games?

Fulham,

I made it to Tobacco Road with a couple of colleagues. Very good turnout for the match and I was pleased to see the manager make his way around the room after the first goal to switch all of the sets over from matinée baseball and CNBC to the game the supporters were there for.

I'm curious to know if the place has FSC and/or Setanta; they must have the DirecTV sports package, right? In addition to the USMNT, I'd be up for some mid-week Premiership and Champions League matches.

By the way, if yr interested, there's a triangle meetup group that frequents Tir Na Nog for the weekend Premiership match of the week. Fulham v. Chelsea is on tap for Sunday, 8/23. www.meetup.com/Triangle-EPL-People/

Tobacco Road definitely has FSC and Setanta.

I'd love to make it to the game on Sunday, but I'll be driving back from Charlotte that morning. But I'll check in on future games. Thanks for the heads up!
