Hi,

There isnot a specific Hull City category. I don't know much about hull city other than they did well at the start last year. What do people think about Altidore? I'm hoping he does well and gets some starts.

Altodore looked good in South Africa and Hull City desperately needs a goal scorer. They just about stayed up because of the dross around them and the flying start they made. At times, at the end there, it was painful to watch. So go for both, I'm thinking.

Jozy will play a vital part in our team...We did struggle but hopefully this season will be an improvement. There's some info on the links in my avatar below.

By mid-November, Phil Brown will be hocking daily deals on meat out of a butcher van in a town square somewhere. It's the logical switch since he doesn't have to adapt to a headset for his new career once he gets the sack.

I think everybody is being a little hard on Phill Brown...

He was the manager that got them promoted to the Prem, and despite everyone predicting their immediate return kept them up last season.

He did keep them up, but he didn't really do a good job over the whole season. It was a few months battling above their weight on optimism and some good luck, and five or six months of looking like a Championship side in the Premier League. My guess is that they will continue where they left off.

... And finish where they started last season: on a High! Very possible.

Yep just like my team, Stoke. I like hulls aggressive style and manager especially now that they have altidore. Hopefully they can beat some top table teams again and stay up! So tired of the glory fan of the big four... time to clear the prem and put real teams back in it! Man city is now money city. <^> :p

That is not a high by any measure. They only beat the drop because no other team rose to the challenge.

They rose to the challenge, whether other teams did or not. Never understood this idea of "the other team did not rise to the challenge". Were they just sitting around playing their C squads, inviting Hull to beat them?

I'm referring to the last half of the year when they went from a great standing down to a relegation contender. Yes they rose to the challenge for the first three months and then withered away. During the last twenty games they picked up something like 8 points. They raced way out in front and then barely hung on. They won one game in their last twenty. In other seasons, such as when Bradford beat Liverpool on the final day of the season or when West Brom won on the last day of the season beating out Norwich, Crystal Palace and Southampton or when West Ham avoided the drop from a string of successive results, a team rose to the challenge of avoiding the drop by winning games and not by clinging on and succeeding only because other teams failed.

Hull will go down because, at EPL level, Phil Brown is punching above his weight. Their players aren't too bad but far too many times last season he made a fool out of himself and their players. His half timre tewam talk in the centre circle was a joke that shouldn ever be allowed to happen again. In Geovanni he had a genuinely talented player who he never used as well as a decent manager would have done.

I actually don't like Hull, but Brown, whilst he's earned his corn yada-yada-yada, his attitude stinks. And his recruitment technique stinks as well by the look of it. He's too "big time! Look at me" when what he really needs to be doing isa organising his squad and recruiting cleverly.

I was at the City v Hull game where he did the half time team talk on the pitch, totally surreal, but amusing all the same. That incident should not be blamed for Hulls fall off in the second half of the season, their squad are all professional footballers, if they let them affect them for that period they all should be sold.

Giovanni is a highly skilled player who on his day is superb, but as his record shows at previous clubs can be very inconsistent. I do remember him scoring one magnificent goal for us, and for that I will always have a soft spot for him. I hope he performs well this coming season.

I think the main reason they fell away was a general loss of form and confidence as results went against them. They were also unfortunate with the signing of Bullard during the January transfer window, and who subsequently got injured missing the rest of the season before he even kicked a ball.

I think regarding relegation along with Hull there are 7/8 teams who should be worried as they do not have the required squad strength to compete for anything other than 17th place. Whatever happens it will be interesting to see how Altidore performs in the Prem.

I was never a big fan of Altidore always thought he was a bit overrated really. He scored a very good goal against Spain but anyone thinking he's going to do that game in and game out in the premiership is mistaken. One thing for sure playing in the premiership will be good for him in his development ,but Hull won't get much out of him as he will have problems with the speed and intensity of the game over there.

Do you even know who Jozy Altidore is? I don't think speed and physicality will be his problems.

The greatest example of a team working hard to avoid getting relegated despite the challenge being almost impossible, was Espanyol last season in La Liga.

From matchday 16 til to matchday 32 they were never higher than 18th. They got 9 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss from the last 11 matches (28 points) and only had 19 points up until then. Along the way they managed to beat higher placed teams Deportivo, Racing, Valencia, Bilbao, Almeria and Malaga.

Its almost the exact opposite to Hull's season and I cant imagine anything different from Hull this season. Although, there are a lot of other teams that look fairly ordinary so they would have a good chance of staying up if Wolves, Portsmouth, Birmingham etc all fail to perform.

Anyone who thinks the pick up of Altidore by Hull is a poor pickup then you don't quite understand the game.

Altidore's key attributes are size and speed (relative to his size, of course). Last time I checked, most of the games in the bottom half of the table (and sometimes in the top half) emphasize size and speed.

If Altidore can get himself acclimated with his teammates he should do well in the Premier League.

He'll also have an oustanding partner in Alvaro Negredo to work with. He will be the best CF excluding 4 or 5 top teams.

It's kind of disappointing to see the Hull bashing.

Yes. They had a poor second half, but they managed to stay up, and Brown definitely isn't resting on his success of keeping the club up.

He has signed Stephen Hunt (quality player for a club like Hull), Altidore, Negredo (in the works), and Olofinjana.

If they manage to keep Turner, which they will after slapping the 12 M price tag on him...they should be alright.

Plus they still have Geovanni.

Not that the Negredo deal won't come off, but they also signed Ghilas from Celta Vigo to go with Altidore and Daniel Cousin is at least a decent option.
