Awesome, a proper test even if it is a glorified friendly.
Think we'll see this:
---------------Cech-------------
Bosingwa - Carvalho - Terry - A.Cole
--------------Mikel---------
---Essien - Lampard - Malouda--------
--------Drogba - Anelka------------

Dont have a good feeling about this. It took Brendan Rogers 15 minutes to change tactics to deal with the diamond. It would have taken Ferguson probably 30 seconds but now that he has seen how its done.....Lets just hope CA has a plan B.

The problem was Deco in that half, the instant we took him off and put on Malouda we looked much better. The other problem is, despite creating chances, we, as always struggle to put those chances to great use, which is why we need a striker who can put them away.
That match could have been put away by half time had we put those away but as always we didn't and it ended up being frustrating as usual.

Once again, Kaz, we didn't create any clear cut chances against Reading. We had a lot of efforts on target but most were from outside the box. Our play was pretty poor then and sticking Lampard at the top of the diamond and Malouda into the side isn't going to help too much against a top quality opponent. I just think this diamond is doomed to failure as it makes everyone in midfield play out of position except Mikel, and maybe Essien but he hasn't seem to found his role yet.

agreed, outside the back four and mikel, everyone is out of position. even essien, because he doesn't have the RF out of a front 3 to work with like he is used to. but to be fair, as much as i hate the diamond, with the players on the field, it can morph into a 4-3-3 very easily. with the above formation: malouda shoots wide, lampard tucks to the left, and anelka goes wide right. probably a lilkey lineup if we played 4-3-3 anyway, with the exception of malouda.
and don't forget, ballack is back. don't really want him on, but wouldn't be surprised if he is seeing as its the last opportunity before the league to get him match fit in a real game.

Read somewhere that Valencia will be out too due to being called up to an unnecessary friendly.
Or atleast, I think I read that! :D

Fergie will probably keep the same line-up that featured against Valencia in their 2-0 pre-season friendly, as follows:
--------------Foster------------
--------------------------------
--de Laet---Rio---Evans---Evra--
--------------------------------
------Carrick------Fletcher-----
--Valencia---------------Tosic--
--------------------------------
----------Owen---Rooney---------
I would expect Macheda, O'Shea and Berbatov to sub in the second half.
Chelsea 2 - ManUre 0
Drogba and Lamps the goal scorers.

I would think O'Shea would start at RB, no?

------Carrick------Fletcher-----
--Valencia---------------Nani--
-------------Rooney--------------
----------Owen------------------
Maybe Berbatov instead of Owen, maybe Fabio at RB. If Valencia does not play because of the Friendly, it will probably be Park on the right flank. If Park plays on the right, i'd like us to play Fabio at RB.
