Perhaps some Haitian fans can help me out on this one.

I recently read that Haiti has a striker, Eloi Wagneur, with Lens in the French 1st division. How is he elligible to play for Haiti? Has he actually played yet with the Haitian national team? Will he join the team for the qualifiers?

Also read somewhere that Haiti is trying to recruit Didier Domi from Leeds. Any truth to this?

He could probably play for Haiti if one of his parents was from Haiti.

I believe they're talking about Wagneau Eloi. He's eligible because he was born in Port-au-Prince. IIRC he was called in for the 2002 Gold Cup but didn't show up.

Found an article that said they were also looking at Metro-for-a-day Olivier Occean.

Hey can you find that article again? OO is definitely turning Canadian heads too. I'm sick of losing players to Haiti (Josue Mayard, Gilbert Jean-Baptiste).

cheers,

Thanks for the article.

Who knows what kind of a difference an attacker or two from the French 1st division and Didier Domi of Leeds could make for the team? Also consider that France has already announced its roster for Euro 2004. Not that any of these players really ever had a chance at making the team, but if they were harboring any illusions they are surely dead now.

Remember that all they have to do is get past Jamaica and they are in the group stages. Of course Jamaica is no walkover, but with a few additions of experienced players at key positions it certainly isn't out of the question. It is now up to Clavijo to convince them of this.

Here is an article (in French) on Wagneau Eloi titled, I believe, 'Proud to be Haitian'

Does anyone have an update on Wagneau Eloi? It looks like the Rapids are taking a look at him.

There is also Jean Beausejour.
He has played for the Chilean NT. :)
He was one of our best players at last year's Olympic Qualifying tournament (even though we failed to make it).
His father is a Haitian doctor (resides in the US), and his mother is of Araucano descent---a line of native indians that was never defeated by the Spaniards (Marcelo Salas :) is half Araucano, too.)
Beausejour has played for U. de Conce, but came through the ranks at U. Catolica (although he barely featured with the 1st team).
He spent the major part of '04 with Servette (Switzerland), and at the beginning of this year came back to UC (after Servette's financial collapse).
He just signed with Gremio (Brazilian 2nd div.)

Fusien (another Haitian---does he play for the NT???) was with Cobreloa the first half of this year, but has signed to go play for Zaragoza. I think a mate mentioned that in this thread.
