Is this a good thing? Who will it help? Who wil it hurt? Discuss.

I hate all-seater stadiums. I'd rather keep the terracing and stay in the lower leagues than get into the SPL. So from my point of view as long as your ground has a safety certificate it should be allowed for the SPL.

How does this compare to UEFA standards for CL and UEFA Cup, though?
For example, won't Hearts need to play its UEFA Cup games next year at Murrayfield anyway due to capacity, etc.?

It will annoy teams like St Mirren who have crippled themselves financially to build a stadium up to standard. I can see some court actions coming up!

This is a good thing. As long as a ground gets it's safety certificate, it should be good enough for the SPL.
Teams like St Mirren, Airdrie Utd and Partick thistle may be annoyed but this is beneficial for the game and that's what matters.
UEFA do not have a capacity or seating regulation. Hearts have a problem because their pitch is too small for UEFA competitions and Tynecastle is to compact to change it's dimensions.

Wasn't there some dispute a couple of years back with a Scotland bid for either the Euro Cup or the World cup and their lack of enough high-capacity stadia? Or am I completely misremembering?
What this has to do with stadium size limits to play in the SPL is neither here nor there. I think it's a stupid rule. If my team works its way up the tables with quality play, they should get to play in the SPL.

I’m pretty sure these teams will be looking to get some sort of compensation.

-cman-, it wasn't a problem with high capacity stadia, in fact Scotland's was probably the strongest bid, in that category. it was the chaos within the Irish associations and their inability to organise a piss up in a brewery that let us down.
Fitbaw, I'm sure those teams will look for compensation but they shouldn't get it. This rule is making the SPL a joke and, for the good of the game, it should be scrapped.
