In every big national tournament there are some players that jump onto the global scence. Just curious about who people think will make the leap from national to global stardom at Euro2004? Basically, who will the big clubs be drooling over in July?

Deco: He is actually well-known in Europe. Clubs are already lining up for his service, but he needs this tournament to justify his status.

Cassano: Only if he gets to play and does not receive a red card..... he is probably the best shot.

Rosicky: He never has a big stage to shine.

Hopefully Milan Barros will shine if he gets a chance to play alongside Koller.

Zlatan Ibrahimovich of Sweeden will get a chance to showcase his skills playing up front with Larsson.

The Dutch have several young players that can make bigger names for themselves. Van der vaart, schneider, and Robben should stand out.

I'd like to see Dado Prso show the same form he did in qualifying and early Champions League. It seemed like he was scoring every week for a couple months there. Croatia are in a tough group though. I'm also interested to see if Miroslav Klose can follow up on his World Cup goal feast, no Saudi Arabia in this tournament.

Arjen Robben when fit. But then again, he already had a big club drooling over him and they've already signed him too.

To make a name for yourself at a big tournament first you have to be able to count on a starting place, because coming on as a sub rarely gives you the time to shine and to show your best...
unfortunately, i think only four players from your list are actually unquestionable starters for their respective countries- Karagounis, Sytchev, Frei and Jankulovski. Not sure about this though, I can only be sure of a situation in my national team:

Babić is second choice behind rapaić(whose only task is to sit tight at left hand side, wait for the ball to come to him and swing it in because he probably has the best left footed cross in the tournament, but can't run for his life) and will come in if Barić choses a defensive formation.

Pršo, Šokota, and Olić (faster than Henry, zero ball control and finishing) will probably all stand between Klasnić and the starting lineup.

However, the names in your selection are bound to be on the big transfer lists in time to come.

John Terry will prove that he is one of the best center halfs in Europe.

If Jermain Defoe can get to actually play he will show pure class.

Simao for portugal...he has looked good in some of the friendlies in the past year...

Its tough as we're still unsure who will start for some teams. Possibilities are:
1. Rooney - Should definatley start
2. Robben - Is he fit enough, will he start, Dunno myself
3. Van der Vaart - Class act!
4. Rosicky - Could propel himself as a household name.
5. Ibrahimovic - Maybe?

Also some Portuguese players could make a name for themselves like Deco, Ronaldo, Ferreira and Valente but I'm really not sure how many will start. I think maybe only Ferreira is a sure starter. Some talent in the Portugal squad. Oh, and Ricardo Quaresma - Is he in the squad?

Robben has made a full recovery and is in full training.

Glad to hear that about young Robben. Like what I've see of him. Do you think he will definatley start for the Dutch. You seem to know your stuff Neeskens.

I hope the following will make it big time in Portugal :

Sorensen (Denmark)
Jankulovski (Czech Rep)
Baraja (Spain)
Terry (England)

Apologies if the first three are already well-known in their own countries, but apart from Sorensen, who's done really well in the Premiership this year and could do with recognition, the other two look star potential without the fame.

Baraja is a far bigger name than Sorensen.

Ruben Baraja has already made his name.
He was a starting member of the Spanish squad that made the quarters of WC2002.

Ruben Baraja just las year was linked with a 9 million pound transfer to A.C.Milan, must have recognized he was a truly talented player?

It's insulting to regard Ruben Baraja as one who will just make a name, Baraja will have an opportunity to add to his reputation.
