ESPN doesn't have the rights in the USA which is why they are not showing it and it doesn't pay for them to have it. Watch how the olympics are handled with No USA for either Men's soccer or Baseball (how funny is that one). When you watch games on tape delay as they say you get what you get but FSW could have done a better job however

Second, if u buy the package from setanta with 3 friends (after all, who wants to sit home and watch the Euro's alone?), it would cost you less than $45 for the package, better yet, only $1.43 per game!!!....If you think its not worth it, you can hardly call yourself a soccer fan!!

Oh yeah, a wife would LOVE that! Not only dishing-out money for sports, but to have her house invaded for 5 hours every evening for 3+ weeks by a group of guys!

This is why I would never have hooked-up with a woman who doesn't love soccer as much as I do. But if its too late to take that strategy, you could always travel to Portugal! Beautiful time of year to go and flights are not too expensive if you buy NOW. Man gets to see the games, woman gets to see the beaches, etc.

Fortunately I have the same luxury as you, my fiancee loves the game, especially when it comes to being Ajax or Oranje. She'll be sitting there with the rest of the boys watching the games.....and serving us cold beers as well.... :D :p

I'm getting the ppv package. I've got my 2 roommates and 3 others pitching in so its not going to be that bad. Can't wait for England-France. That's going to be interesting...

It was not only euro 2000, i think the intercontinental cup between boca and milan had the same problem of cutting off extra time. I missed the live feed and taped the replay and it cut off almost everything and fitted into 2 hours...

Real fans buy pay-per-view.
Only cheapskates watch Euro 2004 on FOX Sports World via 72-hour delay.

Erm...REAL fans go to matches in person. I will watch / tape the delayed broadcast on FSW as I will be in Portugal.

Btw, is FSW even going to do the delay thing this time? I haven't seen them promoting it.

Or what about the people who simply can't afford $20 a game? they don't have the right to be a soccer fan?

They sure have right to be a soccer fan. MLS, Liga Mexicana, World Cup, Olympic soccer, USMNT, USWNT, etc. are all on OTA channels and basic cable. You don't mean only watching Euro 2004 live would qualify one as a soccer fan, do you?

I can't believe ESPN doesn't show the games.

I can't believe this.

First someone faulted ESPN for not showing the English Premiership...

Next someone faulted ESPN for not showing MLS highlights on its SportsCenter...

Now another dope faulted ESPN for not showing Euro 04....

I mean, sooner or later, someone will fault ESPN for not showing the Super Bowl, the World Series, the World Cup final, the FA Cup, the European Basketball championship, World Cup of Cricket, Chinese basketball, Russian baseball, the Vatican Christmas eve mass ....

Wake up and smell the coffee. ESPN is not the only channel in America. If your cable company only give you ESPN and no other channel, you are being cheated...

I think 'NoNameBoys' gripe is a result of the Canadian ESPN (a.k.a. TSN) showing almost every match live, while the U.S. ESPN is too cheap to bother with Euro2004 because they blew their budget on NHL and baseball.

Not that I care. There's no ESPN in Lisbon (which is one of the best reasons to go to Europe)! Plus ESPN's coverage of Euro 2004 (if they attempted it) would be appalling! I'd rather pay $180 for Setanta and get half-decent coverage of the games!

I guess Canadians' gripe must then be TSN is too cheap to bother to show game 7 of the NJ Nets x Detroit Pistons Series because they blew their budget on Euro 2004...

Game is on ESPN USA live.

Well, TSN is showing the better game 7 (SAC v MIN) or NHL conference finals instead. They can't show two things at once because its only one channel, unlike ESPN1/2.

What's ESPN1/2 showing in June in the middle of the day? yup -> shiite! It's not like they're showing Holland x Germany LIVE instead of England x France LIVE! They're showing tape-delayed basket-weaving (or whatever) instead of England x France LIVE!

Amazing the number of people incapable of recording TV programs.

You completely missed my point and the original poster's. Of course, if I can't be home to watch a live game I'm going to tape it rather than catch the evening replay (in Marseille vs. Valencia's case today, for example), just like I'm buying the PPV package for Euro 2004 instead of relying on FSW's 72-hr delayed broadcasts.

What we're complaining about is FSW's tape-delayed coverage of games that can POTENTIALLY go into OT or PK shootouts, REGARDLESS of whether the game's been shown live by FSW or another outlet.

The right thing to do for FSW would be to allocate a 2.5 or 3-hr time slot for those games no matter what. This way, they can show the whole game even if it goes beyond 90 minutes. If the game is settled in regulation, then they could just show one of their filler programs for the next 30 min or full hour.

In not adopting that solution, they're probably saving a few bucks (how many is the question), but they're clearly showing contempt for their bread-and-butter audience: soccer fans.

First of all, if you're a true "soccer fan", you wouldn't gripe about putting up a few bucks to watch the best football possible after the wc, regardless if your team is in it or not.

Second, if u buy the package from setanta with 3 friends (after all, who wants to sit home and watch the Euro's alone?), it would cost you less than $45 for the package, better yet, only $1.43 per game!!!....If you think its not worth it, you can hardly call yourself a soccer fan!!

I can easily justify it to myself, not to my wife. I'd rather have her be happy, because no matter how cool soccer is, ********** is better.

Well, TSN is showing the better game 7 (SAC v MIN) or NHL conference finals instead. They can't show two things at once because its only one channel, unlike ESPN1/2.

Well, SAC x MIN will be playing on Wednesday, while NJ x Detroit will be playing on Thursday. Well, in your calender, I guess Thursday == Wednesday.

And you tell me you are from Canada? Don't you know there is a channel called TSN Alternate? It's channel 402 on Bell ExpressVu. It's exactly used for this type of overflow games.

So yes, they will be showing Tampa Bay x Philly on TSN, but what are they going to show on TSNALT? Check out the schedule on Zap2it. The program is called "SIGNED OFF".

Tape delayed basket weaving (or whatever) is still better than showing "SIGNED OFF", isn't it?

Well, they're showing SOME NBA at least (and the better game too)! Expecting them to show NJ x DET match-up would be like expecting ESPN to show a Kiev v. Slavia Prague Champions League group stage match LIVE.

And you tell me you are from Canada? Don't you know there is a channel called TSN Alternate? It's channel 402 on Bell ExpressVu. It's exactly used for this type of overflow games.
I'm pretty sure that channel didn't exist when I was in Canada. Anywho, channel 402 on Bell ExpressVu sounds like a niche channel to me.

So yes, they will be showing Tampa Bay x Philly on TSN,

So then is my statement: "Well, TSN is showing the better game 7 (SAC v MIN) or NHL conference finals instead" , true or false? Your IQ is at stake here.

Tape delayed basket weaving (or whatever) is still better than showing "SIGNED OFF", isn't it?
Nope.

Anytime you see a game on tape delay, you get that problem.

Wait until you see Spain x Ireland, delayed on ABC, in the 2002 World Cup. The telecast was supposed to have a half-hour pre-game show. But because the game went to penalty shootout, they cut the pre-game show to 5 minutes. Any soccer fan with a brain knew what was going on...

Games are supposed to be watched live. If you can't watch it live, at least ***RECORD*** it live. Any sensible station would edit a delayed telecast, and thus give away the score, if it goes longer than the allocated timeslot...

Actually, the Ireland-Spain game was shown live at whatever time it was in the morning in 2002. As you say it was probably shown on ABC later in the day but again die-hard fans would be watching it live if they really wanted to.

I can't believe ESPN doesn't show the games. I guess the world series of poker or some other shiite like that is more important.

Well...actually to ESPN it is. Makes more money for them than soccer. They are a business making a profit. It would not be profitable for ESPN to buy and show Euro 2004 live. That's it in a nutshell, folks.

Well, they're showing SOME NBA at least (and the better game too)!

Well, ESPN2 is showing some Champions League game at least, true or false? So what were you whining about in a thread that last 600+ posts?

Expecting them to show NJ x DET match-up would be like expecting ESPN to show a Kiev v. Slavia Prague Champions League group stage match LIVE.

Not at all. We are talking about the Conference semi-final of the NBA. Your ignorance on the NBA obviously shows...

I'm pretty sure that channel didn't exist when I was in Canada. Anywho, channel 402 on Bell ExpressVu sounds like a niche channel to me.

Sound does not count. It's a real channel that TSN uses for overflow...

So then is my statement: "Well, TSN is showing the better game 7 (SAC v MIN) or NHL conference finals instead" , true or false?

Well, the point is not whether TSN is showing some other game or not, the point is that TSN is SKIPPING a game, to the same spirit as your camp's whining of ESPN2 skipping some CL games. If you are so desparate for me to agree with ANYTHING you say, try this:

"1+1=2, true or false?"

Nope.
See, your low IQ shows. You would rather see a black screen on TSN ALT than some actual programmming...

You can't show every game played in North America. The schedules are too drawn-out. That's why TSN has to pick and choose. But asking ESPN to show every LIVE CL match possible, would be asking for only 4 hours per month of CL (almost none of which would conflict with a live, meaningless N.American sports match). See if ESPN2 was showing NFL playoffs instead of Bayern x Real Madrid, there wouldn't be any complaints here.

Whoa, already? I didn't think the first-round was gonna end until at least Halloween.

If you are so desparate for me to agree with ANYTHING you say, try this:

...
True. But I never said it was false to being with, unlike your initial response to "Well, TSN is showing the better game 7 (SAC v MIN) or NHL conference finals instead. "
See, your low IQ shows. You would rather see a black screen on TSN ALT than some actual programmming...
I never said I would rather see a black screen over some actual programmming. Is that your low IQ showing or just another lie?

You can't show every game played in North America. The schedules are too drawn-out. That's why TSN has to pick and choose.

And so why can TSN pick and choose the NBA? while ESPN can't pick and choose the CL?

See, consistency is not your strong suit...

Well, a station is entitled to pick and choose, your own words. Then they can show a blank screen ("SIGNED OFF") even if there is a live game going on, then why can't they show a program filler instead of a live game going on that they don't plan to show? I mean, whose logic is it that "only if it's in conflict with an NFL playoff game, or it has to show a CL game"?

Whoa, already? I didn't think the first-round was gonna end until at least Halloween.

Oh, so you don't know jack about the NBA playoffs, and you comment on the importance of a game? See, talking NBA is out of your capability...

True. But I never said it was false to being with, unlike your initial response to "Well, TSN is showing the better game 7 (SAC v MIN) or NHL conference finals instead. "

So your statement that "your never saying it's false to being (sic) with, unlike my initial response to ..." It means my initial response is that I've said it's false to begin with to the statement "Well, TSN is showing the better game 7 or NHL conference finals instead ..."

Where did I say this conjunction (X or Y) is false? Go ahead, cite it. That's interesting. I'll see how you can swim out of this lie...

I never said I would rather see a black screen over some actual programmming. Is that your low IQ showing or just another lie?

Then your tall task,

I asked: Tape delayed basket weaving (or whatever) is still better than showing "SIGNED OFF", isn't it?

You answered: Nope.

means, 'Nope, taped delay basket weaving is not better than showing "SIGNED OFF"'. So why isn't taped delayed basket weaving (or whatever, which can be anything interesting, including soccer) not better than a taped delay "SIGNED OFF" screen? Besides your personal preference, which you always confuse with what the general public wants, why do you think the general public would rather watched a taped delay blank screen?
