I don't know why we're messing around with Kalou and Chamakh when Huntelaar is still available. This guy is a goal scoring machine: 179 Goals in 265 appearances in league play. Granted most of these are in the Dutch League but there's no doubt he's an excellent player at 25. I'm sure RVP would like to play alongside him. If we can't afford him/ don't have a place for him then sell Bendtner.

Also, I think both Kalou and Chamakh will be playing in the African Nations Cup so we would lose either of them for about a month. Huntelaar offers the most value on the market right now.

From the last thread:

I didn't think that was serious; I guess there's more to it this time round. In any case, I completely forgot about it. Was there even an idea of a transfer fee or wage demands last time?

If I recall correctly, this is what happened. Luiz Felipe Scolari mentioned in an interview that "Arsene Wenger wanted to sign Kalou and play him as an out and out striker. He his a smart man - maybe I will do that this season." (I'm quoting from memory here, obviously not 100% correct) Of course the tabloids asked Wenger about this story, and his response was "Yes, I tried to sign him but Chelsea weren't selling him." That was the end of it.

As for Huntelaar - if we aren't going after him behind the scenes, the reason would be that Wenger doesn't think he offers good value for money. We don't need necessarily to buy a player who is the best in the world - if anything I think we are just looking for an extra body in the forward positions. Obviously we'd want this extra player to have some potential, but we also don't need to go and spend 20 million pounds on him.

Supposedly we really are in for Veloso..

When asked which English clubs had expressed a firm interest in Veloso, Mr Barbosa replied:
"At the moment Bolton Wanderers, Manchester City and Arsenal are interested."

I don't understand why we wouldn't we want the best players. If the press is to believed, Huntelaar's price is about 13.5 Million Pounds. I think he's worth twice that amount.

You're probably the only one who thinks that.

Has RvP ever said he'd like to have Huntelaar on the squad? Why make the assumption that because they are both Dutch that they'd want to play together? I dont know about you but there are plenty of people that I have similar characteristics to that I wouldn't want to work with.

Kalou though? Really? Blech.

I think the current crop of forwards Wenger is looking at (Chamakh, Kalou) suggest that he does not want to spend over 10 million GBP. Therefore, I think Huntelaar is out.

I think Wenger plans on making two buys. A defensive player, in midfield or at CB, and a forward. If Senderos goes, I think that is a CB. And I think that is pretty certain now.

I would like to see us get another midfielder, though I don't know if its in the cards.

C'mon- they can both score with their chocolate legs!

Huntelaar has scored 13 goals in 21 games for Holland playing in the squad with RVP.

Best transfer thread title ever!

I'll be massively shocked if we get Veloso because I'm sure he'll cost two arms and two legs, but if we get him for a reasonable price it'll be a Football Manager dream come true.

We are really going to need a CB if Senderos leaves...and not having Song for a month is going to bite us bad if we don't get another cm.

Hey man, you are going to have a pick a side! Can't claim Yonkers, CT, AND Irish heritage in Boston.

Well Yonkers and Irish heritage certainly works.

As infuriating as Wenger can be when it comes to transfers, sometimes you gotta love him. He's saying to Bordeaux "Listen, you're not going to get anything in January when he leaves. You might as well take the pittance I'm offering, because otherwise you have to sell him to Sunderland, and neither you or the player's agent wants that." He's got them painted into a corner and I love it.

As to Kalou, he averages a little over one goal for every five games at Chelsea. And frankly, I think that the fact that he would be good enough for 7-10 goals for Arsenal is good enough for me. It's not like he plays regularly for Chelsea.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised at Veloso either. He'd cost around 10 million now which is about right for Wenger.

Veloso + Kalou (@ ~8 million) and a decent CB replacement for Senderos and I'd be very happy.

If we get one player that would be a lot. 2 is unlikely and 3 is not going to happen.
