I just find it amazing that Sven can pick Heskey over Defoe, Parker, and Smith. He does nothing when he plays and never scores.

Sven is an idiot. Defoe, Parker and Samuel not being in the squad is disgraceful. Phil Neville will no doubt do nothing but kick the opposition and give free kicks away to all and sundry, Heskey will do nothing but fall over and Gary Neville will no doubt do ******** all expect hoof the ball to Heskey whenever someone comes within 20 miles of him. Don't get me started on Kieron "done ******** all" Dyer being in the squad ahead of the likes of Wright-Phillips either. I'm pretty pissed off by it all really.

England will crash & burn??
Keepers: James , Robinson , Walker....yeesh
Scholes plays garbage for England. He needs to pick up his game
Defoe is better than that donkey Heskey and Rooney
Sven is not a good coach
Wes Brown is better than Neville. Good to see Lampard!
Joe cole is very talented and he is also very erratic.
Goodluck to England , tho!

Heskey is utter crap. Why Sven picks him, i will never know.
Parker, Defoe and Wright-Phillips should also be in the squad. Defoe is Englands best striker at the moment. Parker, the young player of the year not getting picked is a disgrace. And Wright-Phillips would have given Sven another option, a skillful player who can beat people down the right and get crosses in and score wonderful goals.

Sven has certainly gone off his rocker,
Why hasn't Andy Cole been nominated!! Racial discrimination I say!!

Why don't you pop on over to www.premierleague.com and update yourself on the relative scoring and assist performances of all those players this past season, hmmm?
And what on earth does the selection of Heskey (a striker) got to do with the non-selection of Parker (a midfielder)?
As to how much players do when they play, that is for the highly-paid professionals to judge. Thank God.

He has more chances than the other strikers except Owen and he's simply not good enough. Strikers who had played less games like Vassell, Smith do a lot better than Heskey yet for some reason don't get in the team. We're having to rely on Owen to score goals and he gets criticised if he doesn't deliever the goods. England won't get anywhere at this rate if Sven keeps picking Heskey.

The highly-paid professionals obviously can't judge
I should have also said that including the Neville brothers is another stupid move. You don't need 8 defensive players, 3 goalies and only 11 midfield and strikers combined. Most subs are made in midfield or up top. It should be:
In-
Wright Phillips
Parker
Defoe
Smith
Wright
Out-
Walker
Heskey
Gary Neville
Phil Neville
James

France are taking 3G/7D/8M/5S Italy are talking 3G/8D/7M/5S
But you want Sven to take 2G/6D/10M/5S for a tournament possibly lasting 3 weeks with 6 games, players can get injured in training not just on the field.Who's your reserve goaly if one gets injured in training and the other in a match,is Defoe gona go in goal or is he gona be a right back.
You dont get to choose who gets injured they just happen you have to cover all areas of the pitch, dont forget Sven has included people like King who could play in midfield if needed and Dyer who could play as a striker. Which is much better than any of your choices playing in defence if needed
P.S I do agree about not taking P Neville though a lot of people might not think Heskey will win you a match, but he isnt gona loose you one the same cant be said of P Neville

LOL! Aaah, the breezy arrogance of the Internet pundit. Comedy, thy name is bedroom hack.

Actually, I think you will find that this is more or less the drop-dead standard composition of an international squad for a major tournament. You would do well to peruse the squad announcements for the other 15 nations taking part.
I repeat - thank God knee-jerk know-nothings on the Internet are not in charge of anything important and/or requiring insight and wisdom when it comes to our national football team.

Aren't they? Sh!t.
I cannot believe people are demanding that the squad includes a bunch of players who have never appeared in an England shirt. I like Shaun Wright-Phillips as much as the next man (unless the next man is Ian Wright), and would have liked to have seen him tried out in friendlies, but I can't see how a team for a major tournament can include untried and tested players. People talk about the 'surprise effect' ... well, the surprise could equally be the player in question knocking a back-pass into the path of David Trezeguet. We just don't know.

Heskey is a bizarre choice...he only scores when the game is already decided in England's favor(England v Germany, England v Denmark). Alan Smith is a far better striker as is James Beattie, who had a decent season. Even Kevin Phillips who had a nice season but who has never had a decent run out with the England side. Anyone of these three players are infinitely better than Emile " I score like Forlan" Heskey.

Heskey fits into svens system and thats why he has been selected.
Despite a lack of goals I still see why he is picked.
He ran turkey ragged in istanbul and terrorized their defence .

People who criticise Heskey do not understand how he creates space for other players. With Michael Owen up there with him, and a midfield trio of Scholes, Beckham and Gerrard, for Heskey to score goals is a luxury not a necessity. In time I hope for him to be replaced, but criticising him so harshly is weak bandwagon jumping.

so who is scoring the goals then? besides owen... i guess you cant count on free kick goals... seems a waste of a position if your middies arent knocking them in... hope gerrard brought his shooting boots a la munich....
