Listening to ESPN radio overnight with Bob Valdano who had Tommy Smyth on with him. Smyth did a recap of the Preakness Horse Race. Then to my surprise they switched gears and went on to soccer. They had a nice chat about The Gunners great season in England.
Smytht then we on to say he was going to Madrid to do a hour long interview for ESPN. He said the interview would be used on Cold Pizza, ESPNews and Press Pass.I have never heard of Press Pass what kind of a show is that and where can you see it. It must mean Beckham has some kind of interest in the USA.

Hopefully this affair thing goes wild and Madrid kicks his ass out so he comes to the States for asylum.

Press Pass is a soccer roundtable show on ESPN international, I think. Beckham really likes the USA. Heck, he named his kid Brooklyn. But, then, that's for entirely different reasons. But, still, you must really like a place to want to name your kid after it.

Press Pass is the international soccer talk show that airs LIVE on ESPN Australia and ESPN New Zealand every Friday night. It is available in the US via ESPN Broadband if you have cable internet and your cable system has signed a contract to carry ESPN Broadband.

While at the Preakness yesterday I saw Tommy and got to speak with him about the Champions League Final (he's pulling for Monaco). Really nice guy. When he mentioned going to interview Beckham you could see that he was genuinly excited about getting the interview and allowing the US audience to learn more about Beckham. On the downside I guess this means that I'll have to wake up early enough to watch Cold Pizza sometime this week.

I believe you can also see parts of the show on Soccernet.com... they had a bunch of Adu stuff up there recently.

Anyone surprised about how many times Becks said 'soccer' instead of 'football' ?

I noticed that too. Maybe they told him to because its going to be on US tv... or he decided to himself.

Soccer is actually a British term- short for "Association Football."
But yes, I'm sure Beckham knew the interview would air in Australia and the USA, where soccer is pretty much the exclusive term used.

He is a savy guy. Of course he understands his market and his audience. Has a guy in soccer ever been able to over hype himself like this? Reminds me of the NBA in the 80's and early 90's when every player was the next coming and 90% fell on their ass. He is just the first to do it in Europe, and let's face it, he ain't world class, but he does have it going on. Good for him. He said he likes the attention and the glitz, and he's doing an excellent job. Hollywood anyone?
