Whoever it is needs to strip the captaincy from Arne Friedrich. Petulant, unprofessional brat.
It won't happen, because clearly Arne's needs outweigh the needs of the club, but I can dream, right?
I get that he is too quiet and reserved to be captain material but petulant and unprofessional? Really?

Dardai or Kacar should captain this team. I think Arne is an alright guy, but he's clearly not captain material in my eyes and he hasn't been for awhile.
Totally agree. I think he's captain only because they know it helped him to stay.

Agree with you once again FR.
Arne Friedrich might be a lot of things, but petulant and unprofessional aren't two of them.

Yea I saw him going up to the Hertha fans after the game, trying to appease them, talking to them and handing them his jersey.
Who knows, maybe Hertha fans know something we don't.

Like they did with Dieter Hoeness??
BTW, I didn't say so, but I think firing Favre is a bad move.
Why would you do that when you've been "crying poverty" all year and now you have to continue to pay him along with trying to find and pay a better coach??

Yea I don't get the move either.
I thought they would give him till January. It's the least they can do considering what the did for the team last season.

I thought he'd get until January too. I wonder what Preetz has up his sleeve?
If he has anything up his sleeve.
I'm afraid for Hertha. I think Preetz will need a "cheap, but 'big-named'" option and I can only think of one.
Lothar Matthäus.
I guess he could also ask Jürgen Röber to return, but that would also include buying Röber out of his contract at Ankaraspor.
I don't think Preetz would ask Falko Götz back, but he's free and I'd support that idea.
If Hertha can afford it, I still think Slomka would be Hertha's best option. That is, if he wants the job.
But I'm thinking Preetz may try to go with the current "young and unknown" coaching trend too......

According to a few sources, Friedrich was actively working against the manager since the beginning of the season. Refusing to play at right-back when needed, complaining in the press, and possibly even playing poorly on purpose- Preetz called him into his office to ask point-blank if he was genuinely in bad form or if he was trying to get Favre fired.
So yeah, petulant and unprofessional.

Who are the sources?? This would have been huge news here and there hasn't been a peep about it.
Also, why would that happen? What changed since last season??
I've seen Hertha play a few times this season and I was at the Cup match against 1860.
If Friedrich was "tanking", I couldn't tell. Had Friedrich "tanked" against 1860, that match would have never gone into extra time.
If anyone was "tanking", it couldn't be seen.
Yeah, I totally believe the players quit on Favre, but to write as if this was a "Friedrich-led mutiny" deserves some proof.
That's a serious accusation.

I remember when Hertha were not doing too hot the 1st half of the 07-08 season, Friedrich (as the captain) a organized a team meeting and all the squad members went out to eat together, or something along those lines.

So you don't think they should have fired Favre, but you believe Farve had lost the dressing room? How many more games did they need to lose, then? Waiting until January would be a recipe for certain relegation. A change had to be made immediately to have any chance of saving the season.

Sometimes when players quit on a coach and the club backs the coach, players fall in line.
It happened more than once at Schalke.
But of course, what do I know??

Then again, all that could be a bunch of bull. If that was really the case don't you think it would have been at least a bit evident on the field?

The problem at Hertha is what respected figure is there at the club to back Favre?
I think he got dealt a bad hand. Just look at who left over the summer and who they were replaced by. But at this point I just can't see things turning around with him in charge. Things might not even turn around with him gone, but muddling on with the team playing so atrociously, apparently not giving a rat's aß, seems like it would have been a really bad idea to me.

I say this is all the fault of Dieter Hoeness :D

I think Hoeness was the last "respected" figure there. The fans talked all the shit they wanted to, but I think that team respected the man.
As far as Favre's situation, as I said, the same thing happened at Schalke twice. Management told the players they might as well play because the coach was staying.
They started to win both times.
I do know that players can also just not play the entire season too. This happened at FCN in 2007/2008.
And there, changing the coach did not help. They were still relegated one season after lifting the German Cup.
However, I think Hertha's players would have eventually come around.
Don't forget the injury problems they are dealing with too.
But we totally agree that Favre got dealt a bad hand.
Of course, those remaining at Hertha are telling anyone who will listen that Favre was the problem.
I guess time will tell.

I was glancing through the Berliner Zeitung today and read that everything is still up in the air pertaining to who will ultimately replace Favre. Berliner Zeitung had contacted several probable prospects, but they all said that they have had no recent contact with Hertha. It'll be interesting to see who they end up picking.
I'm not going to lie, the Hamburg match this weekend is looking quite daunting. Although in fairness, pretty much everything is looking pretty scary right now. :o
Let's hope for a result against Sporting tonight.

Haven't looked at the injury list, but no Friedrich in the lineup. von Bergen and *gasp* Kaka  are in the lineup!
Cesar and Kacar are into.
And I honestly have no idea who our backup keeper is. Sobtzik?
