I propose a simple effort to put an all-purpose rugby thread to the 350 post barrier. The post count is the goal. Hopefully, a free-form, ridiculous rugby thread will result.
We might begin with an argument on the merits of union versus league?

I think league sucks too. I have trouble watching it even when there is nothing else on. However league fans can certainly help boost the post count.

Agreed. League sucks.
Australian football is a lot more enjoyable than League.
But I like Union better than Australian football.

Anyone have any predictions for the Super 12 final? I honestly haven't watched enough of it this year to know too much, although I did see one of the semifinals this past weekend, and I think it that Mortlock being out will definitely hurt the Brumbies.

Looking forward to the Super-12 final this Saturday.

I've always like Otago because of Tony Brown, who seems to be viscous, cocky, effective #10. By extension I've favored NZ rugby. I thought the loss of Andrew Mehrtens, who has to be the best kicker in NZ, from the All Blacks hurt them. He hasn't been playing for Crusaders but they have been doing well without him. I am a bit mystified about this final unlike previous finals where there seemed to be a clear favorite.

How about a northern hemisphere/southern hemisphere discussion?
To me the southern hemisphere combine defense with various prototype offenses. Northern teams don't seem to have character, don't fall into prototypes. I find expecting what a team might do adds to the excitement of watching the game, so I find less to enjoy watching England or France or Ireland play.

I like Southern hemishphere, especially the All Blacks style. But maybe it's just because they show more games from the Southern hemisphere in the US. The only time I got to see teams from the Northern hemisphere was during the RWC.

Anybody have thoughts on what American football player you wished had gone to rugby instead. I keep thinking of Tony Gonzalez of KC.

All of them, except the fat offensive/defensive linemen.

Just wanted to use this old all-purpose thread to point out that the Pacific Islanders hybrid team beat the NSW Waratahs 68-21 in a tour match. They face Australia soon.

http://www.planetrugby.com/News/story_36934.shtmlHanki,
The NSW Waratahs were a little under-strength as AUS is playing England tonight and some of the normal Blues players are unavailable.
Just shows the talent available in the Islands, though.
