Damn. I'm glad that the club put up the required money, and that we got Leeds to accept it. But I'm gutted we couldn't convince him to sign, although I can understand his reasons. He may be in Division 1 next year, but he'll be a key player and starter, then there's also the personal upheaval of him having to move to London when he's firmly entrenched at Leeds.

It's still not fully dead though, Leeds may have to force him out if they can't get enough money from their other sales. Robinson was only 1.5 million, and I can't see clubs willing to pay more than they have to for the likes of Smith and Viduka, and I don't think either of those two will accept moving to Middlesborough or Birmingham just because they offered Leeds the most cash.

Agreed. Good price on Robinson, but the real jewel, Milner, is who I really wanted. I'm proud of him for sticking it out with his home-towm Leeds, but I'd sure liked to have seen him at the Lane. Maybe there's still hope.

I think us signing him is almost inevitable. He may not want to move now, but a few months is a long time in football. I can certainly see the club getting him in the January 2005 window, particularly if Leeds aren't looking definite for promotion (which I doubt they will). Or there's still a good chance of us pulling him away before the start of next season if Leeds are still struggling for money despite shedding players and have to actively push him out.

The small size of the Robinson fee is a sign that they're desperate. To be talking tough about 5 million, only to then sell for almost half what was agreed in January says a lot about their situation.

Agreed. that was my first thought. And I am also pleased that money was put down to get Milner.

I hope you're right about the "almost inevitable" part. With a new manager, I think plans can change by January. Also, if Milner does well, we may not be the only team after him, and the asking price may change as well.

I would argee to that observation. The Leeds board declared that they would not sell off players below market value. And then, Robinson for 2 million pounds. Spurs, you got yourself a good goalie. However, thank goodness Milner staying with Leeds.

There are still some reports that Milner will still move on, part of the Leeds board sees selling him off as essential because of the cash he will bring in.

James Milner's decision to reject a proposed £5m move to Tottenham Hotspur has caused more ructions within the Leeds United board, with directors split over whether or not to sell the teenager.

I doubt he'd move at the moment, he's going to be their new icon after Smith departs. But when the puddle deepens they will have to cash in.

I honestly can't see Milner leaving at all, and if he does, it'll probably be to a bigger club. One thing you'll like about Robbo over Keller is you'll see him kick the ball, and well.

This is good news! Apparently we have first option on James Milner :D I'm very happy to hear this, even if Leeds sell him to someone else then at least we get a slice of the fee.

... but hopefully where there's smoke there's fire. I'd love to see Milner come over. IMHO, he's one of the brightest, if not the brightest, English prospect. This kid has skill, size, pace, attitude and determination. Eventually he'll put it all together, and when he does, he could be stellar at just about any attacking position. He might even eventually become an English Robbie Keane with size. With Owen, Defoe, Vassel, etc., England has enough good young small strikers, but Milner can become the partner of choice for all of them up top, or an automatic selection at attacking midfielder. I'd love to see what he could do at Spurs whose injuries always leave a position open for an attacking player somewhere.

Let's get Milner!

It's going to be harder and harder to sign Milner with each passing day, IMO. Let's hope the club are trying their best.
