Just got back from the practice. Di Santo made some really nice shots in the half field scrimmage they played.
We snuck down to the bottom of the field and were standing there alone when the team walked into their change room. We were able to talk to Frank, JT, and DD. It was really cool!

The World Football Challenge is a four-team round robin tournament. Clubs will receive one point for each goal scored in regulation (up to three). Clubs will earn three points for a win that does not go into penalty kicks. After 90 minutes of play, if the match is tied, each team will receive one point and then winner of the penalty kicks will receive an additional point. The team with the highest overall number of points will determine the World Football Challenge champion.
Really? WTF?
Anyway. Nice soccer day ahead. I hope it does rain as it is supposed to so I don't feel badly about not going to the beach or playing golf.
Go US. Go Chelsea.

Down the Via Monte Napoleone, ending at the Pizza Duomo in Milan where we will be handed the Serie A Trophy

just look at it this way, we have the chance to gain the same number of points in three games that it takes Spurs to gain before December....

That Cowboys stadium is amazing. I remember readin up on it when it was announced we'd be playing there. Just beautiful.

Terry and Lamps were trying to hit the screen. Terry managed it.

Drogba looks like a midget next to Aldridge.

Finally some time to get to see a Chelsea match albeit it being on the telly. Haven't read through all the threads and was wondering how we were doing? Are we only playing a diamond formation since Carlo is our manager? Drogba scored a beauty though against Milan.

nothing but a diamond so far, it looked very sharp in the first two when the starters were in, I do wonder if we will have the same success in the League with it especialy against teams with fast wide attacks and/or that park and crowd the middle. Hope we end up being flexable and fluid in formations Be ironic if, well when Joey is back, we have the players for a 4-3-3 and never use it after often forcing it for a couple of years

I think that with Joey back we will have the ideal personality for a diamond, really...
Bos---Carv---JT---Cole
---------Mikel---------
----Ess-------Lamps--
--<-----Joey---->-----
----Drogba---Anelka---
That might be our best formation on paper right now, with Zhirkov and Malouda to provide width off the bench.

Or just move Joey out wide left and have him play a bit free with Anelka on his usual right. I feel strange saying this but the 4-3-3 is what we should go for imo, we just bought a winger and if it ain't broke..
Not a big fan of the diamond tbh.

This is the trend in football these days though, fluid formations that can shift and change as the game plays out. This flexibility is what has allowed C. Ronaldo to become one of the greatest players, as he often starts out listed as a winger but really plays as a central striker who moves out wide to collect the ball, much like Henry did.
Anelka's game is more suited to playing centrally than down the right, I feel. Although he's not the fastest sprinter in the team he has a fantastic first step and can beat a player for pace that way many times in a game. Playing down the middle, he can use that ability to get off a shot or dink a ball through to Drogba, while out right, it often turns into a cross (not his best skill). That's why I like he and Drogba paired together with Joey and Frank running in behind them, and Joey moving wide to offer more space for Drogba, Anelka, and Frank to work with in the middle. It's got to be fluid, that's the key.
