At this stage you can't rule out anything. People always say that Leeds United and Man United are big rivals but next year we are not even going to be in the same division so it's not even a rivalry.

Say it ain't so! We may be in the first division, but I still hate their guts.

If Smith signs with Man U then I expect to see pigs fly..

Its not like this is EC, Rio, Kewell, or anyone else that was leaving Leeds... It's a friggin a born/bred/raised Alan Smith who probably hates Man U as much as all of us...

I think one of the main reasons we keep hearing that Alan prefers a move to Spain or Italy is because of the very fact that he is from Leeds... I'm sure once he sorts his thoughts out he'll realize he'd rather stay in England and accept a move to somewhere just not the scum..

I'm hearing Smithy and Danny Mills to Newcastle (aka Leeds United North). If Leeds has to lose Smithy, I can live with Newcastle. I've always thought the Toon Army are great fans. If Michael Bridges stays there as well, Toon will have half the starting lineup from Leeds, circa 2000.

I read somewhere that Valencia is showing interest. If they managed to pick him up, I think it would be great to see him lining up with the likes of Pablo Aimar. If he makes the move to the scum or the Magpies, I don't know what I'd do. Maybe the good ol' Black Cats can pick him up once they get promoted.

This is the first I've heard...but I would really have a hard time believing this will happen. I'm sure Smith hates ManU with the same intensity a Robbie Fowler or Steven Gerrard does.

A couple of articles were claiming that Valencia and Juventus were the top of his list...

Why do I think Smithy would be the type to make a comment like, ""I'd like to play for an Italian club like Barcelona." ;)

But in all seriousness, most of us United fans are sort of split on the guy. I like his fierceness and ability to push up and take good shots, but others see him as a red card waiting to happen at an extremely inopportune time. If he did come over, he'd be behind at least RVN and Saha on the depth cart though, so he'd have to be satisfied playing a Solskjaer-type supersub role.

One of my favorite pictues from this season is of Smith celebrating after his goal at Old Trafford right in front of the "One United" sign. I just do not see this guy going to Urine, although it would be nice to see him this summer.

last time Smith got a booking was 18 or 19 matches ago.

I doubt he'll go to the red filth. Too much self respect for that.

Would he be treated as a traitor if he went to Man U? I`ve got a feeling he might join them.

I was reading a report on the Chelsea-Leeds game where the Leeds fans pointed at him and starting singing `Scum, if you join Man U`. Apparently he stopped and stared at the Leeds fans for a long time, despite the game being in progress. He`d suggested before that game that he would consider going to Old Trafford since Leeds and Man Utd were in different divisions it wouldn`t matter so much, and I wonder if he said it to see what reaction he might get from the Leeds fans.

Dwight Yorke was a big favourite at Villa for many years, not in the Leeds/Smith mould, but similar. The circumstances in which he went to Utd meant he gets roundly booed now each time he plays at Villa Park. Smith would get it worse though, because the treachery would be all the greater, wouldn`t it?

It says here that Leeds value Smith as a 10 million pound player and only received an offer for 5.5 million from the scum.

and it is understood Liverpool are now prepared to step in.
Heskey's replacement?

It's too soon to sell Smith. It doesn't sound like Juventus or Valencia have stepped in yet. The more the merrier though, more bidding means more money for us in the end.

ALAN SMITH has told his few remaining friends in Yorkshire that he is determined to cross the Pennines and join Manchester United, a deal to which Leeds United have now resigned themselves.

Could you post a quote from that story or give your password? I'm not paying to read a report that I think isn't true.

Here`s the bulk of the story.

ALAN SMITH has told his few remaining friends in Yorkshire that he is determined to cross the Pennines and join Manchester United, a deal to which Leeds United have now resigned themselves. Despite having rejected two offers from United on Tuesday, the second of them for £5.5 million, Leeds are prepared to risk the wrath of their supporters by selling their leading player to their most bitter rivals, who have been told that £8 million will be enough to take him to Old Trafford.

Leeds have also fielded inquiries from both Liverpool and Rangers in the past 48 hours, but they are aware that Smith’s heart is set on what would be a highly controversial move to Manchester. In their parlous financial state, Leeds have little option but to put aside the historical enmity between the clubs. It emerged last night that, far from being reluctant to trade with their rivals, Leeds approached David Gill, the United chief executive, this week to ask him to make a formal offer.

Although Liverpool believe that Smith could yet be lured to Merseyside, a transfer that would be slightly easier for Leeds’s long-suffering supporters to stomach, it now appears that the only consequence of their interest may be to drive up the price towards something closer to the Yorkshire club’s £10 million valuation. “What we hope we’ve made clear is that we’re not going to be forced sellers,” Gerald Krasner, the Leeds chairman, said last night. “We’ll wait for the right bids and then liaise with players and their agents.”

I think when he cried, he cried because of this, what happened to "respect" for his club.

More evidence that Smithy is holding out for a better bid from the scum....

'... We want to get the best offer possible for the club, while Alan's agent has stressed that he wants to go to Old Trafford.'
