View Full Version : DC Chapter looking to go legit!
As James and I are super busy with our regular SE stuff we've tapped Justin Coughlin a VERY enthusiastic volunteer to help launch an official AO chapter for the DC metro area. The SEs will still work very closely with the chapter and provide logistical support for games at RFK and help run trips elsewhere.
If you're interested in joining the DC Chapter, please contact Justin here:justin.coughlan@gmail.com (we need 25 paid AO's from the area to become an official chapter). He's already working on logistics for the US-Costa Rica game coming up in October at RFK.

Thanks kim guess your club is more important than the country you were born in. By the way this dude never returned any of my emails. What a joke. Sorry im pissed but no viewing parties were listed on the AO website for the game today. DC is supposed to be strong soccer wise. Why such a half ass job guys? And also Kim when I was asking about tickets for the Honduras game we never got any info until a few weeks before. Weak kim. Dont sign up to be AO leader in the DC metro area and not do your job. I know i'm gonna catch some flack for this post but !@#$ you! This post is for America not DC UNITED. I was sold tickets in your section for the last game and there were !@#$ing Hondurans in my seat. WTF. Hondurans were throwing PISS and BEER at our golie? WTF? Weak.

This is kind of an overreaction, don't you think? First of all, the guy emailed me back almost immediately about plans. Things are in motion, as K says in her original post. She doesn't say things are finalized yet. Second, there were three bars that K suggested people migrate to for the semifinals and the finals. That thread is here (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1110723). A little looking in this forum would have yielded this info. Finally, K does a TON for SE, so to chastize her for letting someone else take the responsibilities of getting the AO chapter off the ground is ridiculous and completely unfair. K, I'm sure, will be involved in the new chapter, as will I. Instead of criticizing others who have clearly devoted lots of time and energy to having a soccer supporters club for BOTH club and country in the DC area, you should figure out a way to get involved. Justin didn't email you back? Email him again, it was probably an honest mistake or perhaps for some reason your email didn't get past the spam filter. If you don't know of a watch party, create your own. Get a group of friends and watch it at a bar or at someone's house. K, James, Justin and others are doing what they can, and many of us are appreciative for their efforts. So, before you try to tear them a new one for no reason, please remember that.

I did create my own watch party like I do for every game because there is NEVER any AO watch party info on their web sight for our area ( heck it seems like Greenville freaking NC has more AO than us ). I'm sorry if this sounded like a personal attack on kim but it wasn't meant to be, I'm just distraught that our self proclaimed leader would hand over her responsibillitys to this Kid here in Arlington that I haven't heard do sh!t. Thats all. So before you jump on MY balls just know that the only thing I care about is getting the ball rolling on getting our chapter legit. If northern VA needs to start our own chapter we need to know. Can we work with DC and MD? These are legit questions and they need to be answered.....

I understand the frustration. But keep in mind that the process of starting a chapter is just beginning. This is why DC doesn't have any info on the website...there's no official chapter yet, which is what is being worked on.

No viewing party for the spain game listed, No viewing party for the confederation cup final listed. Last minute post about Molly Osheas for the gold cup final.... thats it bro? Is everything gonna be last minute or not at all like so far this year?

Again, they did post it in that thread I mentioned for the GC semis and finals. I was at The Pour House with a bar full of fans and Hill people doing late happy hours who were watching the game as well. The chapter has not been formed yet. They are starting this process now. So, the information will come, but give them time to get organized. I think you're asking too much of a chapter that, as of a week ago, didn't really exist.

Word there are people waiting. And last minute posts about meeting at three different bars don't cut it as having a home bar per se. According to AO inc chapter criteria.

Interesting rant. If having a DC AO chapter is important to you, why haven't you worked to start one? Kim has supported all levels of soccer in the DC area for at least the last 10 years. The fact that she puts info in this area at all should tell you that. Yes, her focus is on DCU, since that is the local team and one that she has supported since they began. However, setting up, cooking and tearing down a tailgate for over 750 US supporters for the US-Cuba game should tell you something about her support for the MNT. By the way, she missed the first half of that game due to the teardown and clean up of that tailgate. How about the 300 folks that were supported for the Honduras game at RFK?
Any problems you have had with tickets or folks in your seat have nothing to do with her, she doesn't do either. And finally, since there isn't an official AO chapter in DC, how can there be an official AO bar?

I guess that means you're volunteering, since certainly you wouldn't be so self-centered as to bitch about other people's lack of commitment when you weren't interested in showing that commitment yourself. I'm sure Justin Coughlin will be happy to have your help.

What have you done, specifically, to organize an AO chapter in DC? Don't like what you see in terms of getting things organized? Then turn off the PC, get up off your lazy ass, leave your mom's basement and start organizing something.
If you're looking for anyone to sympathize with your plight, I think you've come to the wrong place.

Thanks kim guess your club is more important than the country you were born in.
the american outlaws have nothing to do with our country, they are a reach-around fest about to happen, worried way more about all wearing the same clothes like high school girls than the team they follow, let alone the country they are from--service to your country has nothing to do with soccer.
i'd hope kim treated the eagles more than this stupid outlaw shit. and why not get off your ass and do something. wow you sent 3 emails, that's really something. i know something about running supporters groups and its hard ass work and no reward.
so i were you i'd shut the ******** up and go back to bunching your panties. when the us goes three and out next summer y'all appreciate the effort the eagles folks put in.

JE, I'm shocked that you would make fun of a woman suffering menstrual problems like that. PMS is a recognized (and sometimes debilitating) condition, and pinkflo's emotional reactions should be tempered by recognition of that fact.
Shame on you!
Here, pinkflo, this should help:

I did create my own watch party like I do for every game ....Where was it?
Where was the info posted?
What drink specials did you arrange?
Why wasn't I invited?
You really must suck as a party organizer
As someone who does about half of what Kim does to volunteer for United and about a quarter for AO, I can tell you that a person can only do so much. I have no idea how some of the folks manage to do so much for both.
And yes, if you are doing both club and country club-running, the club comes first. The club has paying members and is here week after week (when not on a 7-of-8 game road trip).
Maybe I know you, and maybe I'm wrong, but I don't recall you helping us out any time in the past. So you'll excuse me if I treat your petty whining as just that.

Look i'm sorry I went on a drunken rampage. There is no excuse and I appolagize Kim. I'm just kinda distraught because I feel like nobody is taking any initiative on creating an AO chapter here. If i'm wrong please point me in the right direction. I am willing to do anything to help. But from a fans perspective, stuff really has not been that organized in our area. I guess i'm just spoiled by my experience at Columbus in Feb and I want the same thing to happen in our house this Oct. Thats all.

a.) blazindw is spot on.
b.) I also got a quick response from Justin.
c.) I find it ridiculously comical that someone is launching a personal attack on K, of all people. I had to read pinkflo's post a 2nd time to make sure that was actually written. Wow. Just wow.
I guess i'm just spoiled by my experience at Columbus in Feb and I want the same thing to happen in our house this Oct. Thats all.
You must not have been at the USA-Cuba match last October. If you'd went to that match, and taken part in the Screaming Eagles/American Outlaws events/tailgate, you'd have absolutely zero worries about what the local group will be putting together for future matches.
