As an inter fan, it's bad breaking news, but Ronaldo is on his way to Real and Crespo is a Inter Player. I didn't think it would happen. Now we have about a million argentines: Cuper, Zanetti, Guly, Vivas, Crespo, others but I don't feel like naming them. I'm in a bad mood. I don't like Crespo..... I've always loved Ronaldo.....

Here is an interview from www.inter.it/
with J. Zanetti this is part of it.

Q: Is Inter the strongest team? Without Ronaldo , there would in any case be Crespo. So is Inter the strongest?

A: More complete, yes. After we need to show it on the pitch.

More of the interview with J. Zanetti:
Nesta to AC Milan…

An excellent buy. All the teams have reinforced by getting excellent players. We’re working well and we’re happy with the team we have. We feel we are very competitive.

Di Vaio to Juventus, Cannavaro to Inter, Nesta to AC Milan – who wins the Oscar for the transfer market?

You’ve named three great players - Cannavaro , Nesta and Di Vaio. There will be a battle in the championship between Inter, Juventus and AC Milan. But there’s also Roma. And also Lazio. We need to be very careful and try to give everything.

Another Argentine could be on his way. Have you heard that your friend Crespo is packing his bags?

I know him very well, but this doesn't mean anything. I know there's still an hour before the lists close. Anything can happen. I think Crespo is an excellent player. If he arrived, he would be useful to Inter and this would be the most important thing.

Let's say Ronaldo will stay. But his desire to leave has created a few problems. Ronaldo has to mend his relationship with the fans and the team...

If he stays, we're happy. We gave the most important reply on Tuesday, by not thinking about this matter and qualifying for the Champions League. We're happy now.

Ronaldo's tranfer negotiations are stalling: Barcelona don't want to pay the € 25 millions asked for Morientes.
there's a chance Ronaldo will stay at Inter (as tourist) until January

You are correct. Morientes and Barça have broken off talks. So that part of the deal is off. Inter don't want Morientes and I'm sure Madrid doesn't want to pay the extra 20 to 25 million Euro for Ronaldo. This all comes to naught.

you mean the issue is between player and club rather than between Real and Barça?

SoccerNet (http://www.soccernet.com/europe/news/2002/0831/20020831madridronaldo.html)Ronaldo will join Real, media report

Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Inter Milan's Brazilian striker Ronaldo just hours before the European transfer deadline.
Spanish radio stations said Real would pay Inter 20 million euros ($19.70 million) plus striker Fernando Morientes and another player of their choice valued at around $10 million euros ($9.85 million) who will join the Serie A club during the winter transfer window.

This would bring the total value of the deal to approximately $50 million, making it one of the five most expensive transfers in football history.

It has also been reported that Inter will sell Morientes on to Barcelona for around $20 million and will buy Argentine striker Hernan Crespo from Lazio for a similar price.

Reports said that after weeks of hard bargaining Real and Inter finally hammered out the Ronaldo deal on Saturday morning, shortly after Real had stormed their way to a 3-1 victory over Feyenoord in the European Super Cup on Friday evening.

Last I saw Marca says that Barca and Morientes have practically agreed to terms...so it really is the player-club deal that hangs the mega deal in the balance.

I gotta question-when is the exact time of the Champions League transfer deadline??? 12 midnight, Sunday noon, Sunday midnight???

Is it any different than from Spain's and Italy's??

The talks between Barça and Morientes have broken off. Moro was prepared to accept the conditions but then Barcelona backed off. So this puts the deal for Ronaldo in serious jeopardy as Inter won't accept Morientes as part of the deal, so Madrid would have to come up with extra cash to make up for the Morientes part of the deal. I seriously doubt they will do that. This was just said on Cadena Ser so any written press is outdated right now.

My take: Barça was leading everybody on. They knew they were key to this deal and I think they just wanted to break it up. It wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Brian,i't just been officially confirmed that the deal's broken

in a few hours the Barcelona president Gaspart will explain in a press conference why the azulgrana are not buying Morientes

It is no different. Check MARCA again as they have updated their website.

BTW, I think the Spanish press reports are more up to date than soccernet or soccerage. IMHO.

I'm not positive on the La Liga deadline but you may be right. Unless something amazing happens in the next few minutes there will be no deal.

Is the Crespo to Inter deal dependent upon this deal? Or is it independent?

Ah ok. Well Inter have a lot of forwards on their hands now. Should be an interesting season for them, either way.

Crespo has already been registered with Inter for the upcoming Serie A season. What if the Ronaldo deal doesn't go through? Inter would have Crespo, Ronaldo, Vieri, and Recoba fighting for two spots.
