It should also be noted that Uefa will implement changes in the calculation of UEFA team coefficients: http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/news/040329.html

Heavier weight is now put on team's individual performance rather than their respective national association's coefficient. It used to be 50-50, now it's 67-33. What this means is that big clubs from smaller leagues now have a better chance of being seeded...

There is none for reasoning. However, 2 years ago. I selected them for winner in matches. I knew zilch about them. Ground was broken with them in league. I was not disapointed in failures e.g. not making CL. I am glad to see them again. I still learn internationally.

Oh, ok - I get it. I thought you wanted them out at the third round...

You not quite correct on the coefficients. The team coefficient will still be counted for 100%, but the country-coefficient will be counted for 33% now (which was 50%).

So it was: 100-50 and it will be 100-33.

Yes, a finalist could definitely come out of this round. In fact, we very nearly had a final with BOTH teams coming out of qualifying this year as both Chelsea and Deportivo came that route.

BTW, for anyone salivating at the possibility of any of these powerhouses getting drawn against one another in qualifying, it won't happen. All of them will be seeded in the top 16 and therefore could not be drawn against one another.

If Porto win, does the 2nd place team from Portugal (Benfica) move up to the group stage and the 3rd place team from Portugal (Sporting) enter in the 3rd round?

ElasticNorseman

found the answer on http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/index.html in the 2nd paragraph

No country can have more than 4 representatives in the Champions League. This implies that, if the defending cup holder comes from one of the top three ranked countries, and did not qualify directly for the Champions League, the fourth-placed team of that country has to participate in the UEFA Cup (e.g. Real Zaragoza in 2000).

If the defending cup holder already qualified directly for the group stage of the Champions League, the champion of the 10th country on the country ranking list will gain direct access to the group stage, the champion of the 16th country on the country ranking list will gain direct access to the 3rd qualifying round, and the champions of the 26th and 27th country on the country ranking list will gain direct access to the 2nd qualifying round. Similar changes are made if the cup holder already qualified directly for one of the qualification rounds, or if the cup holder did not qualify directly but is from one of the top three ranked countries.

So for this season that means that the champions of Austria (Grazer AK) move up to QR 3 and the champions of Romania and Hungary move up to QR2 no matter who wins the CL.

If Porto win or if Monaco win and finish 2nd in France, then the champion of Turkey (Fenerbahce) move up to the groupround.
If Monaco win and finish 3rd in France then Fenerbahce will have to start in QR3.

The rest may wrap up sooner, but their seasons last longer - Romania (6/3), Slovakia (6/8), Ukraine (6/10) and Moldova (6/13).

Because the Cup Holder already qualified for CL via their national league the Hungarian and Romanian champions start in QR2 in stead of QR1 and the Austrian champions (Grazer AK) starts in QR3 in stead of QR2.

If Porto win the CL, then Fenerbahce start in Round 1, if Monaco wins Fenerbahce starts in QR3.

Yes and I said that already in the initial post. However, until the final happens tomorrow, I wasn't going to make those changes in the overall list because I wanted to list Porto or Monaco as the holder and then make ALL the appropriate adjustments rather than start making them piecemeal. I felt it would be clearer that way.

Well, the Hungarian Championship is over and Ferenvaros are triumphant, but Debrecen is going to protest against the results because Ferencvaros had a "suspended" player in their line-up in the last decisive game. So this case might get discussed some more here (Debrecen officials even threatening to involve UEFA), but at this point Ferenvaros are Hungarian Champions 2003/2004 and CL-Qualification participants.
