OK, I figured it would be good to put all of the coaching chatter in one place, and seeing as we're basically done for the year (didn't qualify for Europe and not going to be relegated), this should become a hot topic for discussion.

Mourinho to Chelsea
Planetfootball is reporting that the mastermind who took Porto to the UEFA Cup (winning it) and the Champions League finals is all but set to be the new Chelsea manager. Great, now maybe we can start calling them Diveski. Mourinho is a very good coach, but his teams dive and whine more than just about any I've ever seen, and frankly, I'm glad he's not at Spurs, because it would be hard to support that. I think his teams will quickly gain a negative reputation amongst officials in the Premiership.

So, this means that Ranieri is available, and while not my first choice, I'd settle for Ranieri. He improves the players skill level, creates good morale and camraderie, gets the team to play solid defense, and is well liked by all. A decent coach, which would be an improvement for us.

Martin O'Neill
With Houlier finishing on a high note, Liverpool looking to secure the final Champions League spot, the recent re-committment of Gerrard and several players' public support, it looks like Houlier will keep his job. Obviously, Manchester United and Arsenal do not have openings and are unlikely to have openings in the next 3 years. With Mourinho set to be installed at Chelsea, and Houlier looking safe for next season, O'Neill doesn't look likely to get a job at any of those until at least 2007 unless Houlier underperforms. I doubt MON waits that long.

That leaves the English positions as Newcastle and Spurs. Considering his family remains in London, Spurs are a big club with good resources and a strong fan base, I'm still keeping the faith that MON will be the next Spurs boss. Keane, Kelly and Dougherty will personally welcome him. Who knows, then if Roy Keane leaves Manchester United, he'll stop over in London for a season or two and teach our Dmids how to play. ;)

O`Neil`s reported to be trying to take Rivaldo to Celtic. So if he`s arranging transfers it doesn`t sound like he`s leaving. Talk is of Trapattoni, with Pleat getting the push. Pleat staying as director of football had been the sticking point in Spurs attempt to bring in Trapp, but having shown himself to be clueless in the modern game he`ll be gone in a couple of weeks.

Well, well. After Levy's programme notes, Pleat was asked about them yesterday after the game and he sounded very unhappy! Seems there is truth to the rumour that Levy and Pleat have fallen out in a big way, Pleat is now a dead man walking.

Check out these quotes from Ranieri!

"I'd like to stay in London because myself and my wife are very happy here. It's a fabulous city," said Ranieri.

"There are lots of fantastic clubs in London so I'd listen to any offers from other London clubs very carefully."

Sounds like Trapattoni has turnd down the chance to manage Spurs. His wife is ill and he won`t be leaving Italy.

Here are two decent articles on Trapp and the managerial situation by Adrian Curtis of the Evening Standard. He is usually the first person to hear anything on the club, a popular leak for them.

Yes!

Not to his wife being ill, but to him not coming to Spurs.

It's pretty obvious that Tottenham will play 2nd fliddle to Chelsea in terms of mangers choices. If people like MON, Mourinho, etc are offered both they will almost all take the Russians. I think the best 2 psossiblities for you woulds be MON or Ranieri, due to their abilities to put together very good suqads without too much moolah (even though Claudio had it at Chelsea, look at before the Ruissian takeover & then at Valencia). I think MON would be the better option as he is a good 6-7 years younger & perhaps the more tactically adept & motivational.

Santini looks a good outside bet.

I thought that Radi Antic was the guy who had been lined up.

I don't see MON leaving Celtic for Spurs, but Ranieri seems like a real possibility.

Just give the job to Chas & Dave. After all, Tottenham Hotspur only exists for the amusement of everybody else.

So true!

Would rather take my chances with that muppet David Pleat than Greg Andrulis!

Well the Independent reckon Levy is going to get down on bended knee for O'Neill. I've heard all kinds of conflicting stories on this, some that O'Neill approached us months ago and it was all set up but then scrapped on the orders of Joe Lewis who did not want to upset his good friend Dermot Desmond who effectively controls Celtic. I've also heard though that we've been in negotiations with O'Neill but the holdup is over his contract as he wants a very large salary and for it to be a 12 month rolling deal like he has at Celtic. Then there's the mainstream opinion that Levy wants him, but O'Neill is not interested and is waiting for Liverpool/ManYoo.

Personally I won't hold my breath on this happening, would be a major shock to everyone if it does, but even if not there are other fish in the sea.

There was a story that Carlos Queiroz formerly of Real Madrid was in negotiations with Frank regarding the job, but Frank has shot this down.

I for one like the idea of Carlos Quieroz.

Didn't think he got much of chance at Real and with his record with the Portuguese Youth teams he could be the one. Thats if the attraction of being a No.2 again at United isn't too big.
