So, ever since my stay at Upton Park in the summer of World Cup '06, I've been longing for a trip back to your neck of the woods. Like other major metropolises, London has the type of fast-paced vibe I like, with endless diversions.
The thing is, I may also want to venture outside London to another city or town. I'd also been to Liverpool and Preston on my last visit. Any other suggestions?
Are Blackpool and Brighton any fun?
By the way, I'm a city boy, pretty much single, and not all that outdoorsy and not at all interested in landmarks or tourist attractions. I was thinking maybe late September/early October, although I noticed I might be able to catch The Specials or Lily Allen in November, which could also be a possibility.
Obviously, I'd like to experience a Hammers match as well.

Been a lot of years since been in England and its obviously changed a lot but try Southend instead of Blackpool and I will have to track you down before you go and give you some money to bring me back a new Hammers shirt LOL

Any seaside resort will be tacky and overrun by chavs. You're best off sticking to the cities like Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Newcastle etc.

Norwich has always been one of my favorite cities (up thee with Berlin). 365 pubs and 52 churches (a lot of which have been converted into bars, theatres, etc)
I also like Newcastle, but dont know why

Stomper, Claret has been in everyone of those 365 pubs. In the afternoon he moved onto an Ipswich pub crawl.
I like Newcastle always have done.

Just spent some time in Brighton for work and it's a great place to visit and an hour from London. Plenty to do and has a very good vibe to the place. It's got a reputation for being a gay haunt but TBH it's not in your face.
I'd rather extract my own teeth then go to Blackpool. Southend's not exactly genteel either.
Newcastle is always a good night out.

I'm a big Manchester fan. It's kind of like London in vibe but much smaller. Brighton is cool also, big student town but it's sometimes a little too cool and is best during the summer. Bournemouth is also half decent.

Donīt go to Blackpool, at least not if you are in the south. I can only think of one reason for going to Blackpool; and thatīs to get out of Preston.
Southend is ok for a night out chasing women, or if you fancy a casino.
Sorry that I canīt really be of help. Iīm much more of a village pub, Greene King type of bloke.
Iīm going over on Tuesday, but just for a week. Are you over there now Brian?

i was brought up in Southend and whilst it's a great town to grow up in if you want a seaside town unlike anything usa has then you should go to Brighton. it's nicer than saffend.
