I wanted to check and see if Walton Goggins got a nod for his epic job as Shane in the final season of The Shield.
But either I'm drunk or there are exactly ZERO nominations for The Shield's final season.
Bravo, Emmy douchebags, brav-o.....

Yep. Nothing for The Shield. Or BSG.
But Boston Legal got 2 nominations for Supporting Actor.
The biggest shock is no Amy Ryan for Guest Supporting Actress. They nominated Jennifer Anniston instead? That might have been the least funny 30 Rock ever.

I'm overall rather happy with them, as usual there are some problems I have (two Grey's Anatomy actresses, No Shield.) But overall I'm pleased. "my" two shows. Breaking Bad and Mad Men have a total of 21 so thats cool for me.
Psyched that Aaron Paul is nominated for best supporting actor, too bad he doesn't have a chance against the insiders though.

I'd say biggest shock is Family Guy nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. There's really nothing else? What about The Office?

The Office is up for best comedy, Family guy doesn't have a chance IMO. Although I am biased as I couldn't stand that show after I was sophmore in high school.

It's too bad Family Guy got nominated before The Simpsons. The last animated series nominated for Best Comedy was The Flintstones.

Maybe they would have nominated The Simpsons if it were actually still funny?

I love when people say that.

Although I am biased as I couldn't stand that show after I was sophmore in high school.I like Family Guy, but I like other animated shows like American Dad and The Simpsons more. But I am shocked it was nominated - it seems to me that Seth MacFarlane has been trying very very hard to make sure nothing like this could ever happen. It's violent, disturbing, and deeply, deeply perverted. I mean, it treats pedophilia, bestiality, and every sort of rape as subjects of light humor. What are the Emmy voters saying when they choose this as one of the best shows on TV?
And I'm not sure I forgive them for making that horrible, horrible "joke" at the expense of William Shatner [PBUH].

Maybe they would have nominated The Simpsons if it were actually still funny? In honor of Michael Jackson, they replayed his episode from the second or third season. It's the first time I've seen an early episode for years and years. I was amazed. There was not a single joke in the entire episode. Not one. It could not even be classified as a comedy - if you could transmogrify farina into a story, that is what you would get. I don't understand how people could defend that against the modern Simpsons.

The first two seasons of the Simpsons were more story and character driven. The episodes were not oriented around a series of gags. They went for a kind of naturalism and let the comedy come through the plot and characters.
Around season 3 the show really started to pick up. That's when the humor became more and more topical, and the rythm became more comedic. It hit a stride which lasted for several seasons.
There have been up years and down years for the show, and it is not now as funny as it was during its peak (arguably season 8 or thereabouts). But it is now funnier than it was a few years ago.

The best bit of critique I ever read about the system was how after season 11, it regressed to just being the best sitcom on TV. It is true that the very best episodes of the Simpsons in their heyday were just about the best thing on television at the time.

I'm rooting for Dr. Sheldon Cooper. He's been absolutely brilliant in TBBT.

I still have yet to actually see Battlestar Galactica, despite the fact that it's supposedly the best thing to happen to TV sci-fi since Season 3 of Star Trek: TNG. Maybe it's time to catch up with it.
Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series has Tina Fey written all over it. Her Sarah Palin was a national phenomenon.
Family Guy? Bleh. My opinion of Family Guy concurs almost exactly with South Park's parody of it. It just isn't that funny - the jokes are completely incidental to the plot, they rely way too heavily on audience abuse, and there is effectively zero character development throughout the course of the entire series.

None of which matters to the brain of a 14 year old. :)

Major winners. I'm fine with all of them, except the one I was really pulling for was Aaron Paul for Breaking Bad. Odd that he seemed to get the most applause when they said the nominees, but didn't win. He's only 29 and it's his first nod, so he has time I guess :)
