Obviously, we want media attention in order to reach our full potential...but how? how should we try and expand BOSS? i heard one person say tailgating...which is great. but it's going to be hard to get everything organized in a week before the Milan/CA game. Where should we do our tailgating after?

Any Ideas?

Wow, there are literally 2 things on that menu I would eat. I guess that's what I get for being picky. Fish and chips are always good, though.

I won't be in Atlanta until mid August (after the Mexico game, unfortunately) but after that, I'm game.

USA vs. Mexico has now been moved to Telemundo 2 so i doubt anywhere in atlanta will really have it playing sadly...

I used to have a database of media in Atlanta that have covered soccer. It would be three years old if I could find it. I would suggest we try to start a new list for soccer friendly journalists in Atlanta and the other cities nearby and begin contacting them.

My two cents:

Pick a bar. For each city (Atlanta, Birmingham, Charlotte, etc.), pick at least one bar that already supports soccer. Get a thread started here and get a list on the BOSS web page so people know where you'll be. Have at least a few people who will commit to getting there for every important National Team game or other evening/weekend televised soccer event. Get everyone posting on these boards to go there instead of watching the games at home. Ideally, this bar should be locally owned, not a national chain, so you can develop a relationship with the owner.

The first step to getting noticed is getting organized, and that means getting to know each other in person. And getting the attention of other people who are there to watch soccer but who aren't on BigSoccer is important, too.

Upcoming events that might make sense for this kind of get-together:

July 26: Gold Cup final
July 29: MLS all-star game
Aug. 18-20, 25-27: CONCACAF Champions League (weeknights)
Sep. 5: U.S. v. El Salvador (Salt Lake City)
Oct. 10: Honduras v. U.S. (San Pedro Sula)
Nov. 22: MLS Cup 2009

If there is a soccer-supporting community in Atlanta or Birmingham, these are your best opportunities to get together and start building the community.

Good luck!

As far as a bar goes, I'm not sure how soccer friendly it is..we'll have to check...but Engine 11 is the perfect location: downtown, right next door to North Ave. MARTA, and walking distance from GA Tech and of course the Varsity!

I knew the ownership at the old Spotted Dog and they were soccer friendly but I would suggest someone contact the current owner.

The Brewhouse is great of course but you have to drive there and if we get a stadium in town or near MARTA it wouldn't work for pre- and post-game.

It'd be great if wherever we picked wasn't just a bar so that those of us who aren't 21 yet (not sure if this actually applies to anyone but me, though) can go as well.

I was talking to indiscretion about ways to get recognized and I was telling him that the Liverpool FC Fan Club of Atlanta got hundreds of members in a matter of a couple of weeks by simply handing out business cards with the membership website.

I was thinking we could make simple white business cards with only the logo on the front and the website on the back for people to hand out at games, work, on the street. wherever!

I know vistaprint.com is very very cheap and i think its about ~$30 for 250 cards.

How does this sound to everyone? If each of the registered members brings in only 10 people we will have an addition 180 members!

This is a great idea. We used vistaprint for our first round of cards.

I'm new to the discussion (seeing that I just learned about the group this week), but two quick ideas

Contact the major soccer blogs [Ives/Goff/ etc] - they might be agreeable to doing a short post about the group, including a link to the website.

Contact American Outlaws Captains in the South, they can help spread the word at USMNT viewings

****
Also re Brewhouse

It was packed for the Confed Cup Final. I got there an hour+ before hand and got one of the last tables outside (but then the match was midday so not a good comparison for an weekend evening game). Also, there was a good crowd, but definitely not full for the US-Mexico qualifier (midweek, but early afternoon so again not a great comparison)
