Hmmm maybe we can give Atletico Eboue for Aguero plush the cash from the Ade transfer, plus the cash from selling Senderos.....pluuusss more cash...
Geez....thats what it would take to get Aguero. If only.

I really don't want Aguero. He's a class player but he is going to cost us a ton and not going to solve out defensive questions.
If we were to get him, fine. But I think I would rather have a destroyer.

Bellamy, Tevez, Robinho, and Adebayor... City is going to need to spend their next 25 mil on team psychologists.
As long as Ade is replaced by another striker, this team will be fine.

As long as Wenger spends most of the money, and on the right players this will be a good move for us. If all we do is capture Matuidi and Chamakh, and then put 15m in the bank - this will be a stupid move.
People don't agree with me, but I still say Hamsik should be the #1 target.
---------RVP
Arshavin-------Nasri/Rosicky/Walcott
-----Hamsik---Cesc
------Matuidi/Song

It would play more like Manutd/Barca's 4-3-3 where you don't have a true target man leading the line.

Unless City break into the Top 4 at Arsenal's expense. Strengthening City does not seem a wise move for any Big 4 club imo.
This is true, but if anyone thinks that crew of mercenaries Hughes is assembling is going to gel as a team right off, they're kidding themselves. That said, they've acquired some strong players and the board better let Wenger use any proceeds from Adebayor be used for another player or two, so that we're not pressured by them or anyone else.

Dude, me for one, i dont disagree with you but I get it. He will be a solid player, but you saying it what seems to be every other post wont help us get him.

i'm totally fine with our current strikers.
bendtner will probably have his breakout season.
van persie is in his prime.
dudu (should be a starter, imo) is an incredible goalscoring machine.
vela has a clinical left foot, speed, just lacks experience.
walcott has the sprinter speed, close ball control, just a little erratic in front of goal.
then add in arshavin, nasri, rosicky. those are all legit goalscoring options.
ffs, lets use that money on getting rick carlvaho in here (i wish).
we need to address the defense, more than just vermaelen.
i just do not want to see gallas/toure as our 2 starting CB's.
and yet, when we got gallas, i thought that pairing would be dominate... *sigh*

So, sounded like Wenger was in for Chamakh in the event that Adebayor left. I haven't been following that whole bandwagon, so can somebody give me a verdict on Chamakh?

My original thought was that his strike rate was horrible and he was a bad idea. But as I read more about him, I am starting to come around.
His quality is usualy described as being his ability in the air, his workrate or his ability to hold up the ball and bring the midfielders into the attack.
"Ability in the air" would mean that Ade's one stand-alone ability would still be represented.
"Work-rate" seems to be the thing the 2008-2009 Ade lacked that came standard on the 2007-2008 model.
And the ability to bring the midfielders into the attack is appealing when I look at the abilities of Cdesc, Nasri and Arshavin (Rosicky too when healthy). Even using this same style to compliment true out and out scorers like RvP and Dudu seems like a good fit.
Maybe I am looking for it too much but is Wenger seeing this guy as a semi-Bergkampian type player to compliment RvP in the Henry role? Granted, he'd be better in the air (no "fear of flying" pun intended) but if he is a player who improves those around him, I like that idea, given the level of talent in the attack.
And perhaps Wenger believes that this guy's workrate means we will better defend from the front.
The guy wants to be with us and Wenger seems to like his play an awful lot. Willing to view the glass half-full until proven wrong.

why didnt we just sell ade last year when 1) we would have got more $$ for him 2) the market wasn't as crazy (i.e. 35 mill could get us more last year than it can this year) and 3) despite being hindsight, it's clear that ade wasn't exactly on fire....

Agreed.
The problem is - as we are seeing - that it is incredibly difficult to stop.
Even if they don't land Terry, look how successful City were in driving a wedge there....

Double pay.
Insane.
Brute commercial force is how Utd raped Spurs over Carrick and Berba.
Now City are raping Utd, Arsenal, possibly the chavs.....
Real are raping Milan, Utd, possibly liverpool

jitty, you don't think ManUtd are a natural step-up from Spurs; as far as I can recall, Berba for example was being paid a lot even at Spurs and they were offering him a new deal.
Anyways, how much are the sheikhs offering for Adebayor?

Of course I think they are a step up - but commercial muscle *slash* brute force are also part of the necessary in order to pluck the crown jewels from a team genuinely contending for 4th place.
According to the goss, Ade, seemingly like everyone else, is being offered double the money.
It is incredible that they can take two elite strikers from each of Utd & Arsenal, and undermine the chavs preseason by turning the head of 'Mr Stanford Bridge'.
It really will cap it all off if Alonso is ripped out of Liverpool :D

Your signature could not be more truer this transfer window.
25m is definitely a tad on the lower side especially when you take into account that they are buying a starter from a CL rival.
