You don't think either of the Cordobas deserve any mention?

Asprilla did nothing in 94 and I think he didnt play in 98, correct.

asprilla did very well in earlier 90's, I was not judging for wc shows (all of them suck air behind rumania, twice)
the cordobas were hot in the last 5 years! I can not use them as the player of the 90's

Some may argue Paul Gascoigne, but I wouldnt say so.
Alan Shearer probably. Internationally and Domestically. Scored millions of goals, Championship with Blackburn blah blah blah. Hasnt done that much in European competition though........
Anyone else........Tony Adams? David Seaman?
Cant say Andy Cole because he was shockin' for England. Chris Waddle was finished really by 1994 (or before, I cant really remember)
Cant really say David Beckham or Michael Owen because they didnt come into there own until around 1997/98 time. I was trying to think of players who not only acheived during the decade but also played for most of it.

Gaza on potential. Did Shearer play in the lose to the US during the US Cup? Whoever was to blame for England not qualifying in 94 should not be mentioned.

from your list i would choose solano followed very closely by palacios. too bad peru has real good players but do badly in nationals. but where is pizarro? you forget him? all my peruvian friends love him the most.

PAH!
The game that shall not be mentioned.
The series of events that shall NOT BE MENTIONED!
Hehee
Serioulsy......
There were loads of reasons. I dont wanna get into it because its generally a bad thing, but I will cause Im bored.
Graham Taylor, and the ensuing 'Do I Not LIke That' deal. Not a bad manager as such, just took over at a bad time. Expectations were high after WC'90 and Bobby Robson did a good job.
Des Walker couldnt play football after they changed the rule about passbacks to your goalie. David Platt did well but should have done better.
Tony Adams lost all International confidence after a young Marc Overmars skinned him alive.
Ronald Koeman shafted England from behind greatly.
Players like Carlton Palmer, Geoff Thomas, Lee Sharpe, Tony Dorigo, Paul Parker, Gary Pallister, John Barnes, Chris Woods, Tony Daley, Paul Merson (the list could go on and on) would never get in the England squad now. It was just a bad time.
A very bad time.
It happens to every national side, where lots of little things add up into one big crisis.
A mockery of a sham.

Not trying to pour salt in your wounds. Any squad that get's beat by an Alexi Lalas header, isn't worthy of this thread. I think Seaman is as much of a twat as you probably do. Sorry, I brought up 2002.

Bolivia is two, depending on your opinion.
Etcheverry was just the most exciting player we had in the 90's. What he did in the early 90's just incredible. Unfortunately he was a bit of coke head when young and lost his chance in Spain. Then he had a 2nd chance in Colo Colo and made the most of it but had an ugly injury and hasn't been quite the same player since. Very, very good but not the same.
Sanchez is not as exciting but a lot more solid. He has really been a star in the Portuguese league and has taken Boavista to their first championship and they are constantly in Europe.
Other candidates are Castillo and Baldivieso, but while very stylish and with quite a bit of international experience they where a bit short of Etch's and Sanchez's level.

Speaking of Seaman, he showed he's good at letting in relatively harmless free kicks again today against Chelsea. bravo!
