Don't think this will happen. Stoch, Kakuta, Sturridge, Sinclair are all near his age and have qualities (if they are used) that are as good or better than his.

tbh mate I think you may be stretching a little on Sinclair and for me Katuka is still an unproven quantity at this point
Stoch especially and Sturridge to some extent I can agree with.

Don't think he's near good enough tbh.

Neither Carvalho nor Deco, both of whom are agitating to leave, turned up to watch the FA Cup final against Everton in May. It is that kind of attitude in the squad that gives Terry cause for concern for the future. The club will present Daniel Sturridge as a new player today having showcased Ross Turnbull yesterday and there have been enquiries about Steven Taylor, the Newcastle defender, but no high-profile signings yet.

Which is enough for me to be honest. My main point is we should be spending money on Johnson when we have Youth players playing at his level or higher. BTW if Kakuta gets games I certainly think he has far far more upside than Adam "I can't get a game ahead of Stuart Downing" Johnson. Sinclair is not a smarter player but he has speed, can dribble at speed, and is a decent goal threat. For his sake it may be best to move but I would like to see if he can play second forward if he's used.

Incidentally, I'm just glad neither Sturridge or Zhirkov, or I assume Turnbull, have been given the dreaded #7!

My goodness, I imagine English football journo's either look on fan forums and boards or just try to makeup trends based on a few purchase. Now Chelsea want to by young brit talent, to make up for our "poor academy." Lets not forget how much the scope has stretched into what players get chosen internatioally. Nobody can tell me Welbeck and Campbell deserved a callup ahead of Sturridge. In fact Sturridge (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/stats?id=85291&cc=5901) scored an equal amount and assisted more than Theo Walcott (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/stats?id=67507&cc=5901), all while playing/starting less games.

They couldnt have been. We still, unfortunately, have a player with that shirt number issued to him.

I've heard that he's highly rated but I've never been impressed when I've seen him. For the U21's he looked like he had decent footwork, but also poor balance/strength and average speed, and nothing special in terms of awareness. Maybe he's shown more for Boro but I certainly don't think he's worth 8 million.

Who is most likely going to be our "marquee" signing?
Blue Day
09 Jul 2009, 12:26 AM
so we officially signed Sturridge, Zhirkov and Turnbull so far?
Who else are we linked to these days?
Adebayor by chance?
Dzagoev?
Those two would complete my perfect summer

Looks like this might be to make up numbers for the new CL rules. The team needs to have 8 homegrown players in the 25 man roster.
So far we got: Turnbull, Sturridge, Ashley, JT, Mancienne, Lamps, Joey. Am I missing anyone?

No, but Stoch now counts as not only one of the 8 but also one of the 4 club-grown and ditto for Sinclair (and of course JT). Sadly, Mikel just misses out because of his protracted transfer so he counts as neither and di Santo joined too late to ever qualify. This shows why these rules are bollocks as obviously the likes of Mikel and FDS are young players developed by the club... we just signed them 6 months too late:rolleyes:
After some investigating, as I understand the rules, Mikel doesn't count by about 2 months even though he was training with the club in 2004(!!!)
Btw, it's pointless to sign any more English players from other clubs because we'll already meet the 8-player rule by including Stoch/Sinclair/Cork/Mellis. It's the 4 truly homegrown players rule that most clubs will have to be weary of.
1. Terry*
2. Lampard
3. J Cole
4. A Cole
5. Mancienne*
6. Sturridge
7. Turnbull
8. Stoch*/Sinclair*/Cork*/Mellis (counts as club homegrown starting next summer)

but what if they are good players? :p if players are English it doesn't mean that they are shit or pointless to sign.
btw - Joe cole has signed a 4 year extension
and...England Under-21 winger Adam Johnson is a surprise target for Chelsea
