View Full Version : The new captain?

So Neill should be off. Who to replace him as the captain? For me the best choice when it comes to mentality is…
BOA MORTE! Seriously folks. Fully matured, grown-up man. By far our best player in last autumn when Zola had his bad first matches, after that came back strong in spite of all boos & pressure he received and finally earned back his place in the Portuguese national squad. An after that states his willingness to commit himself to the club also in the future unlike e.g. Neill. Who can honestly challenge that man?

I still believe that Boa will come good because he shows flashes of quality now and then. He just needs to become more of a team player. Oh, and he needs to learn how to shoot and pass the ball properly as well.
I think he's a confidence player, so a goal or two should see him get better. Despite all this I can't see him being captain. He needs to organise his own game properly before he starts organising others.

This captaincy thing is so interesting. It influences some so much and some not a bit. It could give Boa a lift like it did with PDC, but not for getting him in line with others and playing at least some of the matches played away from London as the case was with Paolo.
Well said brought into discussion this confidence thing. This is what Boa only needs. But goals... I promise he won´t be scoring neither this season nor the others after this one...

With everyone healthy, would Boa Morte even make it onto the field? I think that no doubt his game improved a lot last season, but only because he was being played out of necessity.
The captain has to be someone who'll be out there every match without question. So, in my opinion, that narrows it down to Green, Upson, Ilunga, Parker, Noble, or Cole.
I'd go Green.

I'd initially think that Parker was the obvious candidate, but he gets injured a little too much so I would probably plumb for Upson (if he stays), if not him then why not Green? Anyway of Neill returns he should get the job back.

Can't see Dead Snake as a captain ... every third match or so he gets his dander up and is a red card waiting to happen.
Parker, Green or Upson.
I go with Green.

Not a fan of keepers wearing the armband... needs to be an outfield player so that they can communicate with the ref with more regularity, otherwise the opposition could bully the ref for calls... Scotty Parker has demonstrated the ability and capacity... I'd rather see someone like Noble who has served the club longer than most, seen them up, worked his way through, and even takes the PK's... although Green would certainly be deserving.

I think the best option for club captain should be the talismanic Scott Parker regardless of injury or not. For on-pitch captaincy (in case Parker does not play), vice captains should be Green and Upson.

Parker misses to many games, Green would have problems communicating with the forwards, Upson would be a good choice, I would also give serious consideration to Behrami, experienced, and would lead by example.

i wish parker could stay on the field. when he's healthy he's a quality player and always in the thick of things. i'd go with green...upson if he stays. i'd like to see noble take the band some way down the road.

Iain Dale had a poll on this and the majority of us voted for Parker:

Personally I voted for Upson but I was torn between the two. I don't think it will really matter, either of the two would do a good job.
