I think it's a really fun thing to envision, and I think that stuff up in my head a lot, but I have no drawing skills, and no computer software that would help.

Personally, I tried to find the time a couple of times to whip up something in SU and troll the San Jose boards with it as "leaked concept" with all the bells and whistles that the idiots in there wanted, only to have their hopes dashed against the rocks of Wolff's frugality when they got aluminum bleachers.

Oh, OK. I just looked it up: http://sketchup.google.com/product/gsu.html
Looks like it can place it within Google Earth for you, too. This is cool. Tomorrow shall be completely unproductive!

:p beating you to it.
either way, it is always fun. im hoping to someday be CEO of a company, so that i can sponsor the quakes and built the next generation: the replacement to whatever lew is building.

Well good luck with that. Just as long as you stay away from architecture because that concept blows.

Dammit, I thought I was going to bed early last night.
What I couldn't figure out was if I have an elevated "trivial pursuit"-type piece, how do I grab the top point and bring it to the bottom. This is to make a rounded triangle corner stand. It kept screwing with the axis and perspectives.

Draw a line on each side from the top endpoints of the arc to the bottom endpoint of the triangle point. Then erase the upper straight lines ant the upright line at the point.
To make a rounded corner, draw an arc from your vertical to your horizontal in the size that you wish. Then use the follow me tool along the line that you wish to have your arc.
Only problem is that sketchup tends to do a poor job with arcs out of the box. What you can get is a rubyscript called 'smooth faces' to even out those curves

someone designed a really nice stadium for the Houston Dynamo that's available to download on the google 3D warehouse. A pipe dream, of course, but nice looking nonetheless. It looks like a cross between a mini Old Trafford and Minute Maid ballpark.
I would be interested in trying to do a stadium on sketchup, but I'm lacking a good understanding of the structural and utility elements that go into a building of that size.
The most complex thing I've done on sketchup is some roadway cross-sections, which needless to say is not that complex to do.
