While Hamilton might have a good squad it doesn't surprise me one but. Last year Binghamton played Hamilton in the Semi's (ultimately losing) and I got to see all the home games of the series and can easily say that Hamilton play like a bunch of hacks. It wasn't just one or two players either, it was the whole team.

Perezhogin should be banned for life.

Sigh....

You know, it is a great game. It's just hard to remember why sometimes.

Throw him in jail.

Here's an idea to curb homicidal violence in hockey:

Since linesmen have the dirty work of breaking up fights, brawls, bloodletting, et al, allow the linesmen to start throwing some punches of their own. In fact, hire some skating Canadian heavyweight boxers as linesmen. Arm them with sticks as well. It would take a really stupid Forbes Kennedy-IQ goon NOT to think twice before attempting to behead an opponent... knowing they would be instantly blindsided or pier-sixed by a linesman. Hockey has degenerated into Roller Derby on skates. T'hell with it. May Tampa Bay win the Cup. Bring Don Cherry to ESPN. Hockey, to me, is like an ex-wife. It's over. Makes me appreciate soccer all the more.

Gee, a face-shield wearing Euro commits a stick foul. Never heard that one before. And people wonder why there's fighting in hockey.

So motorcycle helmets and seatbelts cause road accidents?

Another Cherryphile.

If this had been a non-visor wearing Canadian committing the same foul, you'd most likely be saying that these things happen because of the high emotional content of the game, or some other ridiculous theory.

The AHL today suspended Alexander Perezhogin for the remainder of this seasons playoffs, and the entire 2004-5 AHL season for this incident. Garett Stafford, who started the whole incident with a slash of his own, was suspended for the first 6 games of next season, since his team is already out of the playoffs.

I just saw this yesterday, and was mortified after seeing the Perezhogin swing. All of next season is about right for a suspension. I think Jesse Boulerice got something similar a few years ago in Junior for doing something similar, maybe something slightly more vicious, to Andrew Long.

Now the NHL, ECHL, et al should honor the suspension. Hockey really, really needs to crack down hard on this crap. McSorley should have gotten an entire season suspension, which he unofficially did, as should Bertuzzi. I must also say that while I wish Stafford a speedy recovery, he is far from innocent in this. This was another ugly black mark on what is a great sport 99% of the time.
