If you could only have one or the other, which would it be?

The Clash for me. I'm not super familiar with a ton of material by both, but of what I've heard, I will easily take the Clash.

Clash hands down.

Hard to say. The Ramones, while they were arguably the progenitors of punk, never changed their sound significantly over the course of their career. The Clash, on the other hand, were incredibly innovative.

I'm torn on this one, but I'll have to say the Clash.

This is a tough one, after all without the Ramones the Clash would not have happened. I saw the Clash play twice and the Ramones about a dozen times, both were excellent

I would have to go with the Clash, The Clash were so much more musically diverse then the Ramones and had a much bigger influence on my own taste in music.

I know that the cool/correct thing to say is the Ramones, and there's no doubt they were a great ********ing band but I can't lie, the Clash are "the only band that matters". If nothing else they covered a lot more gournd musically than the Ramones. Joey & Co. knew what they did and they did it well, but it did lend itself to a certain sameness.

If there's a rock n' roll heaven, I'd lend an ear to Joey & Joe's band.

It's gotta be The Clash for me. London Calling is in my top 10 favorite albums whereas The Ramones are merely "nice."

The Ramones only had one album out by the time The Clash put there first one out, so to say if it wasnt for that album the Clash would not have happended is just darn silly.

Clash for me.

WHo cares about originators. They get alot of credit for coming up with things, which is great but more often other come along and do it better. Just like in sports. You have a guy who brings a move to the game, then EVERYONE can do it as well as him, and some years down the road theres some other guy who takes it the next level and is probably 10x better.

I give originators alot of credit for being imaginative and putting up with alot of crap that they have to go thru in whatever field they are in. But alot of the times they arent the best at what they originate. So that argument doesnt always work.

PS I voted vote The Clash. Much more diverse.

This was a heck of a choice,
I have to go with the Ramones, simply because they are easy for me to listen to at all times (maybe it's that "pop" thing)...plus if I want depth or musical diversity, it's all Dylan...

Hard to say. The Ramones, while they were arguably the progenitors of punk, never changed their sound significantly over the course of their career. The Clash, on the other hand, were incredibly innovative.

On the other hand, Jones and Strummer would be the first to admit the influence that the Ramones had on their band. Still, we got to go with The Clash. It's a damn shame that we don't see new bands like that anymore. In fact, there hasn't been anyone like them since, except maybe U2 to some extent.

We can only imagine the material that a band as young and fresh and talented and politically relevant as the Clash was in their heyday might be putting out today, given the issues facing our world. But there isn't anybody out there.
