Why is it that we're always catering to pleasing other countries, when their national teams come to play in the US? Yeah, Mexico has a great population in LA, let's always play them there... Come on! How about playing the other countries in a place where we can use the home field advantage? God knows, the Mexicans were so gracious the last time we played there, with their booing our anthem and their chants of "osama"...

Exactly.

The USSF would like to thank the tens of thousands of Mexicans who showed up tonight for their gracious donation to our youth programs.

Yeah it'd be nice to have 45,000 people out there cheering on the US. But if we can't, the next best thing is 45,000 Mexicans out there cheering against the US. It's their money that'll win us a World Cup someday soon.

Not mentioned yet, but very important for Bruce's young guns to get experience in a "hostile" environment they may encounter in World Cup Qualifying. In actuality, simulating an away game without having to go away.

Friendlies don't count, so it is more important to make money from those games than play in a pro-US environment. When we play WCQs, we play in places where the USA will have a true homefield advantage. I would expect us to play Mexico in WCQs in Columbus (just like last time) since more USA fans will go to the game than Mexico fans. Also, if the game is in the winter, than the USA's advantage for that one will be even bigger.

It isn't a big deal if we have home field advtange in friendlies. I would rather have it, but we will be fine without it. Home field advantage, however, is important in WCQs.
