Well, it appears the other thread has finally ended. The league starts on the 24th with one game. Jablonec at Sparta I believe.

I went to the Sigma - HFK Olomouc game a few days ago. HFK.. div II.. won 1-0 on a PK goal in the 23rd minute. Sigma stunk, they were terrible... the one thing I noticed them missing from the last time I saw them play.. 2000 season.. is a player like Hapal who could put the ball in the net. Right now it seems that Sigma has no offensive creativity.

Next game for me is on the 23rd.. Sigma will either be playing at Horka.. div 4 or Unicov div 3... in the third round of the CMFS Cup.

Well, I went to Unicov last night to watch Sigma play UNEX Unicov div III in the second round of the CMFS Cup. Sigma was up 1-0 at half, but thanks to a horrible mistake by the UNEX keeper.. Sigma was up 2-0. He let the ball slip under his body. The third goal by Sigma was a UNEX own goal. Olomouc added two more goals in a 5-1 victory. The two Nigerian brothers were not even at the game, not sure why. Sigma will now play a Division four team in the next round.. probably Hranice.

Sigma will now get ready to play Liberec on Saturday in the first round of the Czech league.

A few summer developments that will change Viktorka culture this season:
1) Seats- everywhere! In the space of a month they've turned the place into a nice little all-seater for maybe 6 000. Looks like they put the bribe money to good use!
2) No more morning matches. The first match is in the morning, I guess as a memorial, but then they have normal times listed.
3) I won't get to see an afternoon match in the new stadium. I'm off to the footie hinterlands of Finland. Look for me waxing poetic about hockey on the Other Sports board!

I'll keep checking in though to see what's happening.

Zizkov has an all seater now? I arrived in Olomouc last month to find that Olomouc now has a nice all seater. They also raised the price of the cheapest ticket from 40kc to 50kc.

How difficult is it to get to Zizkov stadium from the main train station? I am thinking about making the trip to Praha on Sept 1 to watch Sigma play against Zizkov.

14500 showed up for Sparta-Teplice game.. nice crowd.

If you can wait a day, I'll check my city maps and get back to you. I seem to remember a tram line goes right by the stadium, but I'm not sure which...

From the main station (Hlavni Nadrazi), walk about 2 blocks northwest to Jindrisska Ulice and catch a 9 tram; goes right by the stadium. Or walk north to Namesti Gorkeho to catch the 9, or the 5 and 26 lines. They also go past the stadium.

If you want a bus, the 168 is a block from the station, and also runs about 2 blocks away from Viktoria Zizkov along Husitska Ulice.

Man, I envy you...

Thanks for the directions, they help a lot.

I really appreciate it.

I was working from an older map, but I don't think the numbering system or routes have changed much. And if you didn't know already, there are route signs at each tram stop; make sure you head in the right direction for Zizkov.

Finally, there used to be a GREAT little pub across the street from the stadium. I doubt it's there now, but they used to have good Staropramen and darts, of all things...

Synot 1 Olomouc 1

Siegl scored in the second half to tie the game. Olomouc hit the post twice in the game. Even match and a tie is a fair result.

Again, a large police presence at the match. I think this is normal, but some thing I am still not used too. We were placed into a cage with two fences seperating us from the field.. fence on both sides, and partially covering the top. As we walked out of the stadium, police in riot gear were behind us. Of course nothing happened. Thankfully.

Were they police, or a security force?

When I attended Sparta games, I saw a LOT of guys in military-type black and blue unis, with clubs and riot gear. Thought it was pretty neat the city would provide SWAT teams...until I was told the club paid private security companies to keep things "safe". Mostly ex-cops and Min Interior guys (paraphrasing Monty Python) unfit even for police service...

I believe it was the final game of the season, and there was a pitch invasion: the security really got into it...one person got clubbed pretty badly after he ripped a balaclava off one cop/officer...really scary...

There were police and a private security force.

Olomouc hosts Blšany this Sunday. Hopefully they will be able to win a game this weekend. Interesting to note that FK Drnovice, who were relegated from the first division last year were dropped all the way to the third division because they have money problems.

Do you any of you guys have The First World Atlas of Football? It was produced by Radovan Jelinek and Jiri Tomes. Just wondering if it was any good.

Thanks
