I've always seen Calexico mentioned frequently alongside one of my all time favorite bands, 16 Horsepower.

I just decided to pick up an EP at the CD shop the other day since it was cheap to try them out. I really like it, but they're not too much like 16HP, but I could see where their fans would agree on the two bands.

The EP I picked up apparently has a lot of covers on it, and I was wondering if there were any Calexico fans out there that could recommend one of their full lengths.

I got Convict Pool

YES!

I cannot recommend these guys highly enough. Their album The Black Light and their latest, Feast of Wire are both fantastic. The Black Light is a bit more sparse and moody: Ennio Morricone meets Mariachis meets twang n' lap steel, beautiful tracks with some catchy tunes as well.

Their latest Feast of Wire is more of a full album, with more singing, more "traditional pop/rock" songs and some great latin beats and guitars while continuing the same feel of their other albums (that border town hazy sound).

Both are highly, highly recommended.

Addendum: Great package art on all their stuff as well.
