Translating some parts:
"La Volpe declared that he is tired of coaching the Mexican team, because of lack of support to do his job and to plan and schedule games - therefore he is thinking in retiring as coach".
"He said that if he could decide in these situations, he would have cancelled the game against the USA, who had games against Denmanrk, Holland and Poland. The USA is a team that is ready, we are in the process..."
Doesn't sound like La Volpe is too confident in his team, or happy about his job- sounds even scared of the USA, even though he won't come straight out and admit it :)

Typical of a team playing the US. Coaches and players understand the Yanks can play a little bit now, but their fans, for blind passion and/or political reasons will not accept anything less than a victory over a team they used to to toy with. It felt good to treat the bully like a child. No more, so build some excuses before the game just in case. Coach has to cover his back. Hey, we've got Albright and Armas. We could make up tons of excuses, but we won't. Bruce picks'em, we'll root for'em. The result is the result.

Damn this article is at least a week old, he isn't scared, he is just pissed that Mexico doesn't get european opponents for friendlies like the US does. If you look at RECENT articles, like say, from todays Esto he says that he is really happy with how his team looks going into the game tommorow.

It's from the 19th, and he did express all this. I post it now because many of us (like myself) may have missed the article when it came out- really fun article to read :D
He sounds like he is already making excuses - but did whe expect any different? I wonder how long he will hang on to his job, and if he loses to us if he may get fired.

He did the same thing against Bolivia, he is just making a statement tot he federation that he wants support. Read yesterday's headlines and you see that he has gotten that support. it worked. It has nothing to do witht he US.

Somehow I doubt he's lacking confidence in his roster. Although he's missing some great players, he's not missing any more than the US is, and the Mexican player pool is deeper.

TITLE: "IT'S NEVER A FRIENDLY AGAINST THE USA."
Mexican defender Hector Altamirano assured that tonight's "friendly" game against the USA is only a friendly in the name and that they should win no matter what.
..
Forward Emilio Mora said this game should be complicated and important because there is a great rivarly with the USA and that personally it would be special for the opportunity that Lavolpe offered him.
This is what our friend Pavel Pardo had to say: "we should win any type of clasico, friendly or official games, and even more so against the USA."
He added: "We should only win or win. We all know the importance of a win, without undermining a good showing for the team."
Hmm, even the mexican players admit that there is a rivalry with the USA :)
They seem very pressured to win and would be very embarrased if they lost again against the USA.
I'll see if I can find any more interesting articles - enjoy ;)

But hasn't Various Styles told this player yet that USA vs Mexico isn't a rivalry?

This was true up untill Japorea.. Now if you pick up any Mexico newspaper then they call the match up agaisnt the US a Classico. Before you Yanks were suckered in by Telemundo and other US hispanic media outlets with the Cold War slogans.
