Question:

Is he still considered to be from the US pipeline, even if he matured as a goalie in Chile or is it just Connolly taking credit for him?

He had a tryout with the Quakes before last season, and I saw him play his only 45 minutes as a Quake in an exhibition match against some chinese team in San Francisco. Couldn't come to contract terms, blah, blah, blah ... went back to Chile.
I remember hearing something about Quakes officials being turned off by his attitude .....

seeing as neither friedel or keller was developed by mls (although friedel did play in mls for a bit)... i think it's safe to assume that the u.s. part means he is a u.s. keeper... not that it was mls that developed him

Well, it wasn't "Europe" that developed him (assuming, if you will, that a guy who starts a lot of games for Liverpool is basically by definition "developed"). 10 games at Brondby and a short stint at Galatasaray vs. UCLA, US youth and senior teams, and 38 games w/ the Crew?

Yes, he was largely "developed" in the US "pipeline"...MLS or otherwise.

would you consider howard developed?

he played most of man-u's games and i wouldn't consider him developed all the way

since brad friedel has pretty much peaked the last couple of years... i think it's safe to say that he was still developing until he reached his peak period

was he developing in mls? sure... the largest part? rather doubtful

more to the point:

look at the title of the article: "Walker next Star in U.S. Goalie Pipeline"

wtf do you think it suggests?

it's pretty much stating that the u.s. produces quality keepers... it doesn't say we develop them or we don't... just that we have them

which was the point of my previous post

I remember hearing something about Quakes officials being turned off by his attitude ..... What appears to be 'attitude' to Californians just comes across as well adjusted to New Yorkers :D

I'd draw a distinction between US-produced and foreign-produced in terms of where they grew up. In the latter category you'd have people like Whitbred, Stewart, etc. who have basically spent their whole lives outside of the US. By that definition all of our keepers are home-bred, aren't they? None of them played professionally outside of the US until well into their 20's, right? And they all grew up and went to school here, right?
