the games vs england i think will be some of the most exciting of the year. i think the teams are evenly matched, and the black caps are coming off their successful series vs South Africa.

Not that you can take too much notice with where the West Indies are right now, but it was away from home, so that would give England plenty of confidence.
Also, if Shane Bond is fit again, New Zealand's bowling attack will be given a huge boost. Bond is their only real genuine fast bowler in their squad, with Tuffy and Oram medium-fast at best. They'll need a spearhead to make an impression on England's batting line up at home.

Successful test series that is. I don't think the ODI series could be declared a success yet.

Whoever won the toss would have elected to bat.
A surface that means runs should be flowing.
So far it's 172-3.

Cricket fans probably already know this but I don't think any of the matchtrackers compare to www.cricinfo.com. If anything, its fault is that it gives too much information...
As for the series, I think its gonna be a good one!
I can't believe Styris went for a duck. He was a terror agains South Africa...Ah! and now Mcmillan is gone too! England are really holding it together.

baggygreen is just an Australia specific interface to cricinfo. The backend engine behind it is identical to cricinfo. Why would anyone want to go through baggygreen for matches not involving Australia, I don't know.

when i said baggygreen, i meant cricinfo b/c as said, they are the same. after sticking with cricket365's tracker, theirs goes into more detail, but definitely not as quick as cricinfo.
so at the moment, NZ went all out for 386 (in 102.4 overs) we're in Day 2, England batting 164, no outs with only 45 overs bowled. Trescothick has 72 runs and Strauss has 80 runs- not to shabby of a partnership, eh?

Not sure about the NZ leadership.
Hasn't been fiddling with things - it took until 140 -odd runs were scored without loss before it was figured that they should try to bowl round the wicket.
As I speak - the first England wicket has fallen - Trescothick caught for 86.
190/1.

well day 3 in the books, New Zealand posted 134/1 and lead England by 79 runs at stumps on the third day of the first Test at Lord's.
didn't anyone see the game or highlights? i got this story from another cricket board-
-"Just when you think you have seen it all
Harmison bowls to Richardson who cuts behind point for four. The ball hits the rope and clears the fence.
A spectator tries to stop the ball but misses. The spectator behind him, beer in one hand, tries to stop the ball with the other. The ball deflects off his wrist/forearm directly into his glass of beer.
The ball is drenched and the game is delayed whilst it is changed. The ball was only about nine overs old at this stage.
Must be one of the more unusual reasons for a change of ball during an innings!"-
sounds like it was hilarious.
oh and congrats to Cairns (NZ), broke the record for most Test sixes (86).

I watched the match earlier today and it was all top quality entertainment.
I would just like to say that Harmison is a brilliant bowler, 8 out in total in this test.
Did anyone see Butcher's brilliant catch, then the wee gesture to the Kiwi fans who had been giving him some stick, then when he returned to that position 2 overs later the Kiwis give him a standing ovation.

Regardless of who won or not - that was a damn fine test match to watch. Five rain uninterrupted days - in May(!) - and it wasn't certain who'd win until well into the final day.
Now if the rest can be like that we'll be in for a treat this summer.
We've got India and the Windies coming too.

England Stroll TO Victory, Take Series (http://usa.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2004/JUN/163678_ENGNZ2004_07JUN2004.html)
England strolled to a nine-wicket win in the second Test at Headingley, and duly wrapped up the series 2-0 against a bruised and battered New Zealand side.
would NZ have do much better if they had a full/healthy team?i am sure they would have, especially since they almost won the first test.
Final test starts the 10th.

Sure.
It'd be nice to hear someone give England some credit occasionally round here.
If they'd have lost it was because they were crap - but because they win, the reason switches to the fact that NZ were below full strength.
Well done England - roll on India and the Windies (again).

Maczebus,
lol, wooooooooow, you definitely misunderstood me. the first thing i thought when i posted-
was firstly, will NZ give Australia much of a fight later this year AND, wow England is definitely a good squad not to be taken lightly. i thought it, just didn't write it. they deserve full credit.
i look fwd to see how they do in the upcoming ODI's and their matches vs India.

Since when did NZ "almost win" the first test??
we beat them easily by 7 wickets.
They never looked like winning it at any point.
The kiwis came here for a 3 month tour with only 14 players and they paid the price .ex NZ player martin crowe summed it up by saying "they made their bed now they have got to lie in it"..
No use making excuses for them because we ruthlessly beat them and exposed them...Vetori only got injured on the 4th day after we racked up a massive score on a difficult pitch..
excuses about injuries are cheap.
When we won in the west indies nobody around here was interested in the series until we was on the backfoot in the last match after we had flogged the windies in the other games...
seems thats people around here know jack sh1t about cricket.
